Meg and I met as classmates our first year of law school at the University of Wisconsin in 2012. Meg was the pretty and popular one, me the weird loner kid. We had all of our classes together second semester and though I noticed Meg, I didn't really allow her to register in my brain because (I was studious and) in my mind, she was way too far out of my reach. It turns out Meg was harboring a secret crush - who knew?! Must have been all those times she witnessed me eating sad rice cakes for lunch alone in the corner of the atrium that made me so irresistible. Following a brief (yet memorable) first encounter after final exams our 1L year, many lame attempts by me to show up at law school events I knew Meg might attend (meanwhile barely brave enough to say hi to her), and Meg's persistence in officially making plans to have lunch — we finally connected over the most stressful meal of my life in the fall of our 2L year. (I actually wrote down a list of conversation topics so as to avoid awkward silences). We became "official" that December when Meg gave in and decided I could be her girlfriend. I knew I loved her already but I waited a whole 10 days to let her know (yikes. lesbians, amiright?). Eventually, she gave into that too, we graduated, got ourselves a real sweet pup (Petunia), studied for and passed the NY state bar exam, and she let me follow her and Petunia to New York. There, many years after that first encounter, I convinced her to let me be her wife for life. #Megumi (Japanese for blessed)
