How We Met

First comes Muppets, then comes marriage.

Alex knew Josh in passing as her older brother Michael’s friend. At parties she would find him joking around with her or doodling something for her on a piece of paper. Eventually, Josh sought permission from Mike to ask his sister on a date. Armed with his blessing the two made their way for the critically acclaimed Muppet Movie, there it became quickly evident that Kermit and Miss Piggy weren’t the only two sharing chemistry that night. The playfulness and ease defined the evening. Be it the pocket full of finger puppets (that her friends advised against), the impromptu parking lot dance to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” or the late night pursuit of soup. Their natural inclinations to be thoughtful and intimate towards one another also came easily. From the way Alex helped him retie his ice-skates properly so that his ankles wouldn’t buckle. A skill she learned from having to tie her younger brother Zach’s skates before hockey practice. Or Josh’s urgency to open the passenger door for her even though she had to wait, as the latch was broken, and wouldn’t let her open it if she tried. Family and Friends notoriously called this first date “The Week Long Date” since the two hadn’t been seen separated since.
