How We Met

In the summer of 2016, Jess started working at UPMC Presbyterian’s Emergency Department. Nate, a veteran on the unit, would mostly see her in passing, but they would always share a smile. In December of 2017, at a co-worker’s Christmas party, they hit it off, talking and laughing until the early hours of the next morning. In the weeks that followed, Nate and Jess chatted frequently. When Jess lamented to Nate that she had just been on the “worst date of my life,” Nate saw his moment, responding, “sorry the date was so bad but since it was, would you consider going on a date with me?” Jess was hooked. From there on out, they were always together.

The Proposal

February 24, 2019

Jess is not a morning person; Nate, of course, knew this and chose to use it to his advantage. On the morning of February 24th, Nate called out to Jess as she slept, “Jess, can you come here?” Thinking nothing of it, Jess hopped out of bed and into the living room only to find Nate on one knee between their two precious pups. While Nate said lovely things, Carol sat patiently wearing a sign saying “Mommy, will you marry Daddy?” Tucker wore a bow tie and the ring hung on his collar. Shocked, Jess squealed “yes!” thereby marking the easiest (and best) decision of her life.
