How We Met

A Whole New World

Ever the karaoke enthusiast, Nicole forced her friends to go to karaoke with her at Tony’s Place Bar and Grill one Thursday evening. Her best friend, Rachel Dennis, invited a couple of friends from her high school class. One of those friends from high school? One Michael Love. A few discussions about Michael Douglas’s the Game and one horridly off-key version of “A Whole New World,” and Michael was interested in seeing Nicole again. Michael asked Nicole on several dates -- whiskey bars, comedy clubs, bowling -- for two weeks before Nicole finally got the hint that he was not just trying to “hang out” with friends. They finally went on their first date two weeks after they met. Mike brought Nicole to teach her how to play pool, something Nicole had told him she wanted to learn when they first talked at Tony’s Place. Michael has never been able to avoid karaoke since.

How He Asked

New House, New Fiancé

Michael and Nicole decided to take the plunge and buy a house in January of 2020. The house was to be completed at the end of June. Two months after Nicole and Michael bought the house, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down businesses across Pennsylvania, including the construction of their home. In May of 2020, it was confirmed that the house would not be completed in June. Instead, the final walkthrough of the house would be at a much more meaningful time: their fourth anniversary. It was a sign! Mike knew he wanted to make the walkthrough and settlement day special for Nicole. In August of 2020, he reached out to their incredible realtor, Tish, to ask her to be involved in the proposal, which he had planned for September 10, 2020 -- their settlement day. Tish came to the house on settlement day with camera in tow. She pretended like she'd brought the camera solely for the purpose of taking photos of the new house. Nicole, not knowing what was going on, started moving out of every single shot. She even went out to start unloading boxes into the garage. Michael asked Nicole if, instead, they could take photos in front of the house for his parents. After a few test shots, Mike asked Nicole to take one last shot and started to pose her. He then dropped down to one knee and asked Nicole to marry him!
