How We Met

3.17.18

Travis and I went to Kearsley High School together, but since he is a few years older, we never really spoke. Fast forward to 2018, we ran into each other at a St. Patrick’s Day party at Michigan State University. I pretended as though I did not know he was there for approximately 1 hour. I avoided him out of nervousness. In fact at one point, I was speaking with a friend of mine and knew he was sitting in a chair right behind me. All of a sudden she walked away, and I had no choice but to turn around and face my fear. So I did, and said “oh when did you get here?! I didn’t even see you come in!” As he stared at me in confusion, my best friend Chloe, who was ease-dropping from afar, decided to chime in and say “she knew you were here the whole time she was just scared to talk to you.” I was mortified, but I suppose now I can thank her for embarrassing me 🤍 Travis and I spent the rest of the night talking, laughing, and getting to know one another. We have been inseparable since.

The Proposal

7.5.23

Travis and I planned our trip to Maine in the fall of 2022. We stayed at an AirBnb about 40 minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Although we meal prepped and cooked there most days, we each packed one nice outfit to go on one nice dinner date during the trip. Our first couple of days were very rainy and foggy. In fact, on day two we visited a beautiful spot and Travis said “we should come here on our last night before our dinner date and get a picture in our nice outfits.” I agreed, and we decided that was our plan. Our last day brought us perfect weather. It was sunny and warm. We spent the day at the park and in Bar Harbor. On our way back to our AirBnB to shower and get ready for dinner, a giant storm formed out of nowhere. Of course we were not surprised given the weather we had most of the trip. Anyways, we got ready and just as we arrived back at the park the storm was slowly clearing out. Travis decided to take us to Sand Beach for our picture instead, because we hadn’t been able to visit there yet throughout the trip. When we got out of the car, Travis said he had to use the bathroom, so I waited patiently outside, in my sun dress, freezing cold. He came out of the bathroom and headed back to the car to get a water bottle, I was kinda confused. As we are walking down the stairway to the beach he was chugging this water bottle so quickly that I asked him, “are you okay?” He said he was just really thirsty… We got down to the beach and I was still really cold and just ready to go eat. Travis suggested feeling the water, walking around, etc. I finally ask him who we should ask to take our picture, and he said “it would be nice if we could find someone with a good camera.” I was kinda confused again. As Travis looked around the beach, I suggest setting our stuff down and walking over to the rocks to ask someone. Just as we set our stuff down Travis said, “I’ll be right back” I said “where are you going now?” he said “I gotta go to the bathroom” I said “but you just went!” and he said “just give me 5 minutes” and hurries back up the stairs. Leaving me yet again confused. About 2 minutes later he came back down the stairs and following behind him is a man with 3 giant cameras attached to a fancy belt. I didn’t quite know if it was a coincidence or not… but he followed Travis back to me and Travis said to him “hey would you mind taking a picture of us on her phone?” the man said “sure!” and took my phone. Just as he went to take it he said “you know, if you give me your email I can just take one on my camera and send it to you, I don’t mind” and finally, Travis got down on one knee and proposed. The photographer proceeded to capture the proposal. Just after Travis proposed, the storm fully cleared and the sun came out just in time to set over the ocean and mountains. We spent the next hour getting engagement photos and enjoying Sand Beach 🤍 (yes we did get dinner afterwards).
