Our Story, Our Love

From Butterflies to Forever

It all started on Easter Sunday in 2022. I (Bre) came in late with desserts, and you (Sway) were making small talk, asking questions, and genuinely trying to get to know me while I shared very little information. Safe to say, I was not making it easy, but our first encounter would definitely not be our last. Over the next few months, every time I spent time with my brother Rudy, there you were again. Sweet, intentional, and always taking the time to ask about my move to Austin, my work in education, and my goals in life. Somewhere between those conversations, your kindness, and one unforgettable hug, the butterflies in my stomach won me over. I floated home that day knowing something felt different; this felt real. After casually pushing you to go on a date with me (I know, I'm bossy), we finally went to Chili’s in Bastrop. It happened to be during the Celtics vs. Warriors Finals, and you were so invested in the game that you could barely eat. But that night we laughed, talked, shared our love of sports, and unknowingly started writing our story. From there, we were inseparable. Then on July 14, 2022, in the most us way possible, we basically looked at each other and said, “Let’s just be together,” and you asked me to be your girlfriend. Over the years, our love has become so much more than a relationship. It became a partnership. You became an incredible stepdad to Jourdyn, helping build her confidence, encouraging her dreams, and supporting her love for soccer that is just as big as yours. Watching your relationship grow has been one of the greatest blessings of our story. We have also been each other’s biggest supporters through life and our careers. Through new schools, new leadership roles, and earning my Master’s degree, which was such a big dream of mine to help provide for our family, you were there every step of the way. For you, it was stepping out in faith, growing your remodeling construction business, building new connections, and trusting in the Lord to continue opening doors for your passion and growth. One thing about us is that we somehow always say exactly what the other person is thinking. We are constantly calling “jinx,” but that closeness has also allowed us to always speak honestly with one another because we know it only helps us grow individually and together. We have been on so many adventures together. From the Colorado hills to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom celebrating Jourdyn’s tenth birthday, spontaneous concerts, trips, and countless memories, every adventure has brought us closer. Date nights are not something we save for just special occasions because we make every day feel important; our love and friendship matter to us every single day. We always say we try to fill each other’s cups, especially when one of us is running low from our day-to-day workload. That is what makes us strong. No matter what life brings, we face it together. Our engagement came quietly and perfectly on my birthday. No big crowd and no chaos needed. Just the three of us at dinner, wrapped in the calm and warmth of knowing we loved each other so much that we wanted this to be our forever kind of love. As we step into marriage, we look forward to continuing to support one another, growing our family, walking in faith with the Lord, and growing older, wiser, and even more in love. As we celebrate this next chapter with our closest family and friends, we mean it when we say this day is not about anything fancy, It is simply our love for one another, and we are so happy to share it with all of you.
