Matt had been working on the Bos family's renovation/addition and I repeatedly was told, "Miranda! You just have to meet our electrician! He's SO, SO nice! And he goes to church and he travels!" It hadn't worked out to meet Matt on earlier visits, but on a random and short visit to Fulda after working in Marshall I went to spend the evening with Boses and Dave asked if it was alright to invite Matt over for coffee after supper. The idea of being set up with a complete stranger didn't thrill me, but because I love Dave and Sheila so much and they thought so highly of him I decided to take Dave up on his offer. I said he could text Matt and ask just to see what he said and much to my surprise, Matt agreed to come over! We all stayed up visiting and drinking coffee for the next 5 hours! Matt didn't say too much to me that night, but it was still fun to visit and Dave and Sheila were awesome buffers to have to avoid awkward silences! Numbers were exchanged and long conversations on the phone started before we had our first official date at Caribou about a month after we met. And here we are 14 months later! Matt got more than just a job out of the deal and we couldn't be more thrilled! ❤️
Matt and I had already been discussing our future and had been ring shopping, so we knew without a doubt that we were going to be husband and wife. I suspected that Matt would somehow tie in Boses with the proposal as they were our matchmakers and now his good friends as well, but I wasn’t going to be in Fulda anytime soon. I didn’t expect a ring until MAYBE September because Matt hadn’t had the opportunity yet to ask my parents in person (or so I thought) for their blessing and this was important for the both of us. I finally made it down to Fulda one weekend and a part of Saturday was going to be spent helping Matt with a concrete project on his house. We had a late breakfast at Dave and Sheila’s and got to visit and lounge around until Boses all left for the fair. Matt and I went to town to buy concrete and pick up some more supplies. Before we started working he thought we should go back to Boses to grab my phone charger because it was almost dead. We get my charger from my car, but Matt needed an excuse to get us into the house. “I really have to go to the bathroom.” “Fine, I guess I’ll go too.” After I came out into the kitchen Matt said we should sit down at the island and have a talk...to which I replied “Come ON! We haven’t done anything productive all day!” He took my hand and sat next to me. He proceeded to reminisce and tell me that it was about one year ago that we met in that very location and since then his life has been forever changed. I still had no clue what was coming since he’s pretty romantic and sweet in general so I just smiled at him and gave him a kiss. He then said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and slowly slid off the stool and knelt on one knee. He pulled out a ring box with a shaky hand and asked, “Miranda Christine Swanson...will you do me the honor of being my wife?” Of course I said yes after asking if he was serious! 😉 I was grinning and laughing like a fool...and here we are, planning a wedding for February!
