There are two sides to every story and ours is no exception. One fateful night, Suzanne’s roommate (Gabby) convinced her to leave the comforts of the couch and her heating pad. They headed out to meet up with a flock of former William & Mary swimmers who were in town for a wedding. This gathering took place at Jack Rose in D.C., named after the two lovers from Suzanne’s favorite movie “Titanic.” The stars were aligned for a special night to unfold and this is where our stories diverge.
I flew in from Florida that evening and was eager to reunite with my former teammates at Jack Rose. I barged into the dimly lit saloon and pushed through the crowd into the arms of my doting friends. It had been ages since the W&M “savages” and “swohmen” were all together and we were ready to lay claim to the saloon. Despite all the commotion surrounding us, my gaze shifted over to the bar area and for a moment, time stood still. The most beautiful woman I had ever seen was seated at the bar and I swear there was a halo over her head. I was originally planning to “bro” out all weekend but fate had other plans for me. After mustering up some liquid courage, I bid adieu to my bros and swaggered over to introduce myself. Her name was Suzy and she was a Bama swimming legend. I knew right then and there I was truly #blessed. I looked into her beautiful eyes, took her hands in mine, and said "Suzy, I'll never let go. Roll Tide.” Game over.
Gabby convinced me to leave our cozy apartment and forced me to change into something other than my pajamas! I was sipping my G&T at the bar when I saw a hot guy make a loud entrance. I grabbed Gabby and told her to go fetch that guy for me. She brought him over and said “This is Ben. You’re both Bama fans so you should talk.” We immediately connected and I knew that I had met my match. Roll Tide!
