US National Whitewater Center
We met at a rafting company in Colorado, so naturally we recommend one of the best man-made whitewater centers in the country! If you have some extra time Saturday morning, enjoy class 2-3 rapids as well as a ropes course!
Freedom Park
A great place to run, bike, walk, or just hang out! Make sure to visit local restaurants along East Boulevard, a historic and quaint area of Charlotte!
Marshall Park
If you want another park where you can walk, run, bike, or just hang out, go to Marshall park that doubles with a view of the Charlotte skyline!
Carowinds
If you find extra time in Charlotte and decide to stay a while, check out some of the best rollercoasters in the southeast! Suz's favorites: The Intimidator, Afterburn, Nighthawk
Romare Bearden Park
This is an amazing park near downtown Charlotte, where you can sit on the green lawn and grab a bird scooter to explore more of the amazing downtown Charlotte!
Little Sugar Creek Greenway
This is an awesome pathway through green forest and water that has a view of the skyline as well, and ends in the NoDa (North Davidson) area, with lots of fun places to eat and hear live music!
Yancey Road and Southside Drive
This is an amazing area to explore breweries and distilleries all within walking distance of each other! Options include The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, Sugar Creek Brewing Company, Brewers at 4001 Yancey, Great Wagon Road Distilling Company, and many others! Also check out Queen Park Social- a fun spot for food and games!
Blue Blaze Brewing
A personal favorite! Super laid back atmosphere, fire pits, live music, and cornhole- and right next to a greenway!
Uptown at the EpiCentre
An awesome downtown Charlotte spot! Three stories of open courtyard and restuarants, bars, and near live music and nightlife!
NoDa
NoDa stands for North Davidson- this is a super fun area with local artwork, galleries, live music, restaurants, coffee shops (Smelly Cat Coffee House), and one of the best french bakeries with macaroons galore called Amelie's!
Brakeman's Coffee & Supply
One of Suz's favorite coffee places- an old house made into a coffee shop, about 15 minutes south of Charlotte in the popular and quaint town of Matthews!
Crowders Mountain State Park
A wonderful spot to find a hike! Different trails are offered, and there is a lake area to cool off in if needed. If you get to the top and look far enough on a clear day, you can see the Charlotte skyline! Located in Kings Mountain, which is also another area close by that offers a few great hikes!
Price's Chicken Coop
THE best fried chicken you will ever have (featured on Food Network)- make sure to bring either cash or check though, and it's take out only!
The Metropolitan
This is a great spot along a beatuiful greenway and with a view of Charlotte's skyline, that has a conglomerate of casual to fancy restaurants (Suz celebrated her high school graduation watching a world cup soccer game at Hickory Tavern here), a spa and a salon, as well as all your shopping needs- boutiques, trader joe's, marshalls, and target.
