The funny thing about our story is that we were Facebook friends for quite a few years before we ever actually communicated. In late 2014, Corey requested to play one of those competitive Facebook games with me. After crushing me several times, we began to banter back and forth. He was all about the smack talk, until I started winning games back-to-back. From that point forward, we talked every day and our relationship began to blossom. Although we were both extremely nervous to meet one another, in fear of not being accepted, after a couple months of “talking” we finally decided it was time to meet face-to-face. I remember feeling the butterflies in my tummy when I told him I was on my way over to his house, but what I had to remember in that moment was that he's just as nervous to meet me as I was to meet him. That drive to Taneytown was the longest 30 minutes of my life. My hands were shaking the entire time. When I finally pulled up to his house, I saw him standing in the driveway and the world just melted away. I was so happy to finally lay eyes on this man who I already felt so connected to. After that first night together, we both knew that this was a special connection.
Not only was this day special but it was in the middle of an incredibly special week. My family planned a week up at our favorite place, The Thousand Islands on the St. Lawrence River where my grandparents and great grandparents vacationed every summer. It was also the very first place Corey and I vacationed together. The family rented a big, beautiful house right on the river so we could spend the week together with my grandma who was fighting stage four cancer. We shared many laughs, funny stories, great food made with much love and we got to see grandma so very happy. Realizing that she may not make it to a future wedding, Corey knew what it would mean to me, to grandma and to the family if we were to be engaged there. On that gorgeous day, we walked out onto the dock and I was asked the most beautiful question. Will you be my wife so we can bring our kids up here and share this beautiful place with them? The whole family was on the big porch and watched him get down on one knee. As we walked back up to the house, everyone was cheering for us with excitement. I went directly to my grandma and gave her the biggest hug. It was such an incredibly special moment. We truly cannot wait to share our next big day with you all!
