Susanne and Neil met in 2013 in the American Studies Masters program at Western University. Susanne joined the program a couple of days late after competing for Canada in the Rowing World Championships. Her team's success was posted on the American Studies website and when she was introduced to the other students in the program, only one person knew who Susanne was - Neil! It didn't take long for the two to realize their connection. A few days and a few drinks later, the couple we know now as Neil and Susanne kicked off their love story!

To celebrate their five year anniversary in September of 2018, Neil and Susanne traveled to the Grainger family cabin. Growing up, Susanne and her family spent many summers at the cabin. To this day, it is one of Susanne's favourite places on earth. She always pictured getting married at the cabin, but came to realize that logistically, it would be difficult. Neil knew how important this place is to Susanne, and on their five year anniversary, proposed to her at the cabin, in the exact spot she wanted to get married so that it would always be a part of their love story.
