Upon meeting each other, the first thing we did is verify our sports allegiances, which kept us up until 4:00am with debates being that we're opposites in every sport aside from our beloved and horrendous New York Knicks. Here's the kicker, my future brother-in-law caps the night off by telling me that his parents are racists just to get a shock out of me...all you can do is laugh. The past four years with Joey have been truly a humbling but phenomenal friendship that has been gained on both ends. He won't admit it, but I'm better than Joey in Madden, NBA 2K, & I make him tap-out in an UFC octagon. #FREETHE9

A lot of people think that they have the best nephew, but that comes to a halt when talking about mine, Shomari. I mean seriously, who else comes over to Uncle Akil's & Aunt Susan's house for a Thanksgiving break from NJIT to only forget their clothing duffel bag on the platform of Newark Penn Station? Yupp, that's my boy! To this day, Shomari's diapers are the only ones that I've ever changed, and I'd do anything for this kid. From picking him up at summer camps on my BMX bike handle bars, to watching HBO past midnight as a youth, and now only a year away from graduating NJIT with an Engineering degree, I love this kid with my whole heart and nothing will ever change that.

HOT 97, EVERYDAY THAT'S MY WORD! There isn't a hip-hop lyric from the 90s that Eric and I cant recite word for word. I'm talking about the full length seven minute Jay-Z & Big L underground freestyles and all of Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers, you can't see us! From middle school to now as adults, there's always been an open door policy on both of our ends, except we just yell "YERRRR" obnoxiously from the sunroof of our cars when pulling into the driveway. One major fault I have in our friendship...I can't keep alive any of the five cacti or succulent plants that his mom has given to me from her own hard working hands. I also accidentally break dishes at his parents house, leaving for funny stories when they have actual family dinners and someone's got the odd plate at the table.

Talk about New York pride, this kid had the Island Sound rippling with his voice waves all the way up to the great Ocean State! If anyone has ever had the privilege of going away to a university, the first thing they'll talk about is their freshman year dorm roommate. Bruh, I STRUCK GOLD! Not only did we have our own private bathroom, we had the laundry room directly across the hall from our front door and after our first night out on the streets, I woke up to about a dozen cannoli's and a hot cup of Joe. Friendship - SOLIDIFIED & OFFICIAL.

As Susan and I began dating, I got the notion pretty quick that just about everyone was a Mets & Jets fan, which led me to believe that I'm never going to their houses for Sunday dinners or summer BBQs watching those two teams in miserable existence. Then arose my boy Alec, the ONE fan of both Yankees & Giants. It was a blessing in disguise. For any of Susan's family and cousins reading this, I'm sorry, I really am, but Alec is my road dog. The kid throws down on the slow cooker, he's got seasonings for days, and always takes my side in any debate that Susan tries throwing at me. Yeah, he's on my championship roster for sure and first ballot HOF without a doubt.

We once argued on a hot summer day, and of course as I'm working sanitation for Metuchen DPW, I see this loser while I'm picking up his trash and tempted to throw the whole damn can in the back of the truck. As we gave each other a solid morning hello with middle fingers, we called each other later that evening and laughed it off. Metuchen High School to Johnson & Wales University, we've really seen it all and done it all, no lie and don't ask for details. Our friendship revolves around arguing, slap boxing anywhere public then finishing a bottle of Whistlepig. I can only end this with the infamous Jerry Maguire - SHOW ME THE MONEYYY!!!

I'm a firm believer that you meet people in this universe for a reason, and oh boy did I meet someone named Justin Wozney from North Haledon, NJ. He's a stud muffin who nicknamed my mom as Momma Ross, which she adores and will cook anything for her soul baby. They say a true friend is someone who's there for you, but who else lends you their parents car to get home for a weekend, and then tells you, "hey, by the way, the cars interior dash lights don't work on the speedometer and the registration is expired, drive safe bro." As he's spent the years traveling all the coasts, there isn't a time Woz doesn't pick up to call or text, even with being in different time zones. In addition, him and Susan are low key best friends on IG and I just found that out a few days ago...
