No, we are not high school sweethearts. But high school sports were to thank for the crossing of our paths! Luke decided to join the cross country team his senior year of school to which I was already going onto my third year. Come the end of practice, Luke was eager enough to try and get more than 3 words out of me. He would sit with me while I waited for my mom to pick me up and attempt to start a conversation. Poor soul never managed to get much, but he was relentless! Fast forward a few months and we are great f r i e n d s !
Fast forward a couple more months and Luke thinks he has asked me out! Me? Eh, not so much. The conversation goes as follows: **Phone Rings** -S: Hello? -L: Hey! What do you got going on today? Do you want to go to the movies? -S: Sure, who else is going? -L: . . . . . . I'm not sure yet, no one else has replied. Let me go ahead and double check and I will get back to you. -S: Oh, okay. ** 5 minutes later** -L: Yeah, so no one else could make it, you still want to go? -S: Sure! You are free to make your own interpretation. But I didn't take that as him trying to pursue a romantic relationship with me. And in my defense, he never tried to clarify what he was trying to do. Plus, instead of the man buying me a ticket, he snuck me into the theater.
Well, nothing ended up happening between the two of us in high school. All we did was meet. Both of us ended up losing contact with one another after graduating. I ended up going to school up in Northern California while Luke stayed local. 4 years passed before we got to talking again. We decided to meet up during our winter break while I was in town. He ended up inviting me over on Christmas day to watch a movie; Anchorman. Once the movie was over, he started talking nonsense and hypotheticals to which I was fully engaged with at first. Though, as the minutes turned to hours and the hours turned into even more hours, I began to consider there may never be an end. About 6 to 7 hours later though, he finally does it. He asks me out! Needless to say, it was no longer Christmas day, but the 26th.
It's what every girl dreams of in a proposal. You look like trash because you had no sleep, hair is not done (hence the hat) and not a single thought into the outfit because you were simply trying to just get through the day. And then all of a sudden, BAM! "Marry me?!" I don't know how I was imagining this day would go when it came. But definitely nothing like it actually did. He has always had a knack for throwing me off my groove.
