Lake Placid

The Wedding Website of C M and S M
Nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, Lake Placid boasts a rich history. Its story begins with the Algonquian-speaking Mohican tribe who called this land home for centuries. As Americans embraced leisure pursuits in the 19th century, the Adirondacks became a popular summer escape. Wealthy families, captivated by the region's natural beauty and cool mountain air, built their grand "Great Camps" around Lake Placid. Lake Placid's rise to prominence reached new heights when it became the first American village to host the Winter Olympics in 1932. This event cemented its position as a premier winter sports destination, a legacy further solidified by the "Miracle on Ice" during the 1980 Winter Olympics. Lake Placid's Olympic legacy extends beyond two Winter Games. It has continued to host major winter sports events, including the 1972 and 2023 Winter World University Games, the 2000 Goodwill Winter Games, and numerous World Cup competitions.

McCarthy Family LP Story

30+ years

The McCarthy family started going to Lake Placid, NY in 1992 while staying at the cozy, family run establishment, The Mirror Lake Inn. Over the last 30+ years they have made friends with other families and locals who vacation and live here, this has become a second home and community to them. Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy loved the idea of being far away from other popular vacation destinations near PA because they wanted to focus on have uninterrupted family time and create unique memories with their children. When a family friend recommended this secluded town in the Adirondacks they leaped at the opportunity! The McCarthys often reminisce on how when they first started going to LP they had to use a literal map to navigate 6+ hours away, then print out map quest, then eventually get a portable GPS, to now just plugging the destination into their cellphones. Although the town (and technology!) has transformed, the fun and memories remain the same accompanied with nostalgia as they talk about their favorite place!

Susan + Charles LP Story

Love Story

Susan first brought Charles on the exciting annual McCarthy Lake Placid trip in August 2018. Charles saw a new look he had not seen in Susans eyes since they’d been dating, a look of pure bliss and joy being in her favorite place with the ones she’s loved the most. He knew on that trip they needed to come more than once a year and so they began a new tradition to see the changing seasons together in the fall/ winter with their dog Eleanor and spend summers there with her family. They’re giddy with anticipation to be getting married in Lake Placid because this isn't just a place for them, it's a story etched in love and memories. They reminisce on the early morning walks, relaxing by the crackling fireplace, family memories, swimming in the lakes, and diving off boats. Most importantly, they can't wait to see the joy on their guests' faces as they experience the charm of Lake Placid. So, when they say "I do" at the edge of Lake Placid it's like weaving another chapter into their love letter to this magical place. Their dream goes beyond the wedding day. They hope to one day be homeowners in Lake Placid so that they can open their doors to friends and family, to share the joy that Lake Placid holds, and to continue to create a lifetime of memories that will shimmer as brightly as the lake itself. They can’t wait to see you there!
