Flume Gorge
Flume Gorge is 20 minutes from the Owl's Nest. Enjoy a 2-mile self-guided nature walk through the Flume Gorge, a spectacular natural chasm. Along the walk you will discover covered bridges, amazing waterfalls, a scenic pool, and incredible mountain views. Kids can crawl through and explore caves along the way. Less than a half hour drive from Owl's Nest you'll find Franconia Notch State Park - a must-see! Franconia Notch is a major mountain pass located in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest. An hour and a half from Thornton you'll find Mt. Washington - the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288.2 ft. The Mount Washington State Park is surrounded by the extensive 750,000-acre White Mountain National Forest. The Mount Washington Cog Railway
An hour outside of Owl's Nest is The Mount Washington Cog Railway. The world's first mountain-climbing cog railway and the second steepest rack railway in the world after the Pilatus Railway in Switzerland.
