We met at our annual Diwali event on campus where many of our mutual friends crossed paths that night. Although he had noticed me around school for years, it wasn't until that night that he found the courage to approach me. After initial introductions, we found out we had a lot of common...and a lot that was different! He was a pilot while I was a tennis player. He loved to sing while I enjoyed reading. Yet somehow we clicked! After a hot chocolate date and sharing long stories, we started dating. The past three years have been a whirlwind adventure but we could not imagine doing it with anyone else. From long distance calls to late night chats (and frequent trips to Toronto!), we have grown up as much as we have grown together. And our journey is just getting started! We are extremely excited to announce our wedding, and to have all our friends and family (such as yourself), join us for this auspicious occasion. We thank you in advance for being a part of our journey thus far, and the one we are about to embark on. Cheers!
“They say travelling is the greatest sense of adventure, but I’d argue otherwise...” I’ve always been blessed with opportunities to travel the world, whether it be for leisure or exchange trips. It's been humbling to see so much of the world from a young age, and has helped shape who I am as a person. This adventurous mindset persevered throughout undergrad and would later fuel my interest to pursue an MBA Finance in California. During undergrad, Sunny and I took different classes and had a different circle of friends but our paths crossed fortuitously one night at a cultural event. The rest, as they say, is history. The earliest (and perhaps funniest in hindsight!) memory I have of him was during our first encounter. When Sunny first initiated a conversation with me on social media, I was curious to know what he looked like. Browsing his pictures, I was amused to discover his profile picture showing him with a group of friends, a couple of whom looked alike. Wanting myself to be pleasantly surprised the first time I met him in person, I did not pursue my research further. Imagine my shock during our first “date” at Starbucks when he brought along his look-alike friend! I must’ve had a confused look on my face as I internally debated asking them which one was Sunny. To this day, we shed tears of laughter over that hilarious moment. By the time we graduated, we knew we had something special. I was moving to California and him to Thunder Bay, but we promised to make long-distance work. Recalling that momentous day in November, I realize that while I have travelled much of the world (and still yearning to see so much more!), my greatest sense of adventure has been the rollercoaster ride with Sunny. Whether it’s making long distance work or squeezing every drop of joy from our super-short meetups, I could never imagine going on this journey with anyone else. And as for what’s left of the world to see… well, I have him right by my side to finish the list off.
"Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you will always long to return." -Leonardo Da Vinci. As long as I can remember, I have wanted to fly. Cliche much, but I still remember my father holding me in his arms by the fenced gate of Pearson Airport and watching airplanes land. The sound, the lights, the adrenaline rush from it all; it was set then and there. I would grow up to become a professional pilot. I pursued a unique program in aviation at University of Waterloo for 4 years. There I met my two best friends, and the love of my life. Eventually I got a job in Thunder Bay flying for a great northern operator, Northstar Air. Just like I watched my relationship evolve, so did the company and my career. My favourite memory of Akshaya has to be when I first took her flying. She had the classic funny attitude of "thinking she knew it all." So when I took her in the Cessna, I told her she can take control and fly it straight and level for a little while. Of course, all that attitude changed when she couldn't do it and I could not contain my laughter. Years went on and we grew extremely close, and to this day we have a great laugh over our first flight. I am very thankful I have met someone who understands my career, both the sacrifices and the benefits, and is able to smile and be a shoulder to lean on through it all. When I am flying high in the sky, I look back at Leonardo's quote and think to myself, finding true love is a lot like living for your real passion. Once I fell for Akshaya, it was there that I have been, and there that I always long to return.
