We met at Indiana University while Kayla was finishing her last year of undergrad and Nate was in his first year at the School of Optometry. Kayla’s older brother, Leth, was also starting his first year of Optometry school at the same time as Nate. Our first meeting was on the pickleball courts at Switchyard Park, when Leth invited Kayla to come play pickleball with some of his new friends that were in his optometry class. Nate just so happened to be one of those friends. From there, we stayed friends for the next year. Kayla graduated from college and moved back to Fishers, while Nate stayed down in Bloomington for summer classes. After bonding over playlists and music at a football tailgate, we finally decided to go on our first date. Our first date was getting take-out pizza from Da Vinci’s in downtown Bloomington. (One of our favorite places to eat still!) Since then, we have been inseparable. Kayla finally joined Nate back in Bloomington in January 2025 to work and to start her graduate classes at IU. Since then, we have created countless memories including traveling across the United States, hiking the tallest point in New Mexico, boating and learning how to wake surf, playing pickleball in the Shafer’s driveway, and endless games of Sequence at the Sundling and Shafer’s households. In January 2026, we got engaged in front of Sample Gates. Since then, life has been full of adventure. 2026 will be such an exciting year full of graduations and weddings, but we are so thankful to be together! We are so excited to get married and start the next chapter of our lives together. We are so grateful for everyone that has played a part in our story, and we are so eager to celebrate with you all this October!
