All wedding guests will receive a Deception State Parks Pass for the duration of the wedding. However, If you decide to drive and explore other state parks in the area, you will need to acquire a State Parks Pass. You will likely be able to borrow one from a local, or day passes are available for purchase at kiosks inside each park.
One of Washington’s most iconic destinations, Deception Pass offers rugged cliffs, sweeping beaches, forested trails, and of course the famous bridge that connects Whidbey Island to Fidalgo Island. It’s a great spot for easy walks, tide pooling, photos, or a sunset stroll.
If you’ve ever wanted to see orcas or humpback whales in the wild, this is one of the best places in the Pacific Northwest to do it. Tours leave just minutes from Deception Pass and usually last 3–4 hours — a perfect half-day adventure for guests looking to make the most of their trip.
Mount Erie, located just outside of Anacortes Washington, is the highest point nearby that you can drive to! The Summit of Mount Erie will offer you amazing views of the Salish Sea, Mount Baker and the Cascade Mountains, and the San Juan Islands.
Just south of the park is the historic seaside town of Coupeville, tucked into the heart of Penn Cove. With local shops, restaurants, and waterfront charm, it's an easy and relaxing outing. A few minutes away, Fort Casey State Park offers a lighthouse, wide-open coastal views, and old military bunkers that are fun to explore for all ages.
Rosario Beach in Deception Pass State Park offers fantastic, family-friendly tide pooling on its north side, revealing sea stars, anemones, and crabs at low tide. The tide pools are accessible via a short walk from the parking lot with marked trails to protect fragile life. Before going check with the tide charts for the lowest tide and stick to paths to preserve the ecosystem. Plan a visit during a negative low tide to see the most marine life, and try combining it with the scenic Rosario Head loop trail for stunning views of the Salish Sea and Deception Pass Bridge.
