Sumera was 15 years old living in Atlanta, GA while Riyaz was 17 years old living in Memphis, Tennessee. Riyaz was visiting during Golden Jubilee in 2007 for a cultural dance performance. Sumera was also in one of the entrance cultural performances, but even though she is the dancer, at the time she was too young to be in the actual performance. During that time, Sumera remembers meeting a tall, skinny guy named Riyaz who she exchanged names with (she didn't think much of it except for the fact that he was super tall). Later that week, Sumera received a Facebook friend request from Riyaz and immediately sent him a message asking if she knew him from somewhere (smooth, Sumera, smooth). Riyaz, of course, responds and they began a conversation that turned into three years of occasionally catching up typically on each others Facebook walls for birthday wishes, the occasional teasing, and eventually the message that changed it all. Sumera used to think that Riyaz was way out of her league because of the sophisticated and inspirational quotes he would periodically send during Sumera's bus rides to high school. On December 23, 2010, after several years of intermittent conversations and being out of touch, Sumera randomly texted Riyaz saying "Hey, old friend.” during Riyaz's move to Dallas, TX. This time the conversation never stopped. They connected on another level and the rest is history :-) The story continues on September 24-26th weekend in Atlanta, GA. See you there!
