Playa Abou is one of the best beaches on the island, and it’s extremely popular with locals. It’s located between Westpunt and Lagun, and gives way to a small lagoon between high rocks. Its crystal clear blue waters are the perfect starting point for snorkeling, due to the huge coral reef nearby. There are many places to cliff jump in Curacao, but Playa Abou is one of the safer cliff jumping spots. The cliffs aren’t so high, around 20 feet. There are lots of kids and adults jumping at the same time so anyone can do it. If you'd like a greater challenge and a higher jump, head over to Playa Forti, where the heights go up to 40+ feet! 💦
Playa Piskado is an animal lover’s paradise. Not only is this secluded beach highlighted by sparkling blue water in a picturesque cove, but it’s also where resident fishermen come to haul in the day’s catch and cast off their scraps. Local sea turtles soon caught on to the possibility of a free meal. Now, sea turtles come in droves to feed on what the fishermen leave behind and swimmers and snorkelers alike enjoy their presence as they leisurely float around. Whether you stick to the beach or go for a dip, you’re sure to spot a sea turtle (or five) at Playa Piskado. Even if you don’t go underwater, you’ll see these too-cute creatures come up to the surface to breathe every few minutes. Remember: look, but don’t touch. Handling wild animals is unsafe and disrupts the environment!
The Curacao Hato Cave is located on the north side of the island. Curacao is formed in layers going up in height, which are called ‘terraces’. While most caves are to be found in the second terrace, the Hato Cave is uniquely found in the third terrace of the island. So in order to reach the entrance of this unique upstairs limestone cave, you’ll have to walk up 49 steps. This may sound like a lot, but it’s actually quite doable! And once upstairs you are rewarded with a beautiful panoramic view of the area and a nice cool breeze. Once inside the cave, it’s easy walking on a smooth paved path, fully illuminated, with limited steps. The steps and pathways are lined with handrails for extra support and safety. The cave consist of marine coral limestone, which accumulated over millions of years and after sea levels had dropped were exposed to atmospheric corrosion and karst processes.
