How it all began

It all began with a simple university drama performance. I first noticed Gavee on stage, and something about her caught my attention. I went home that day and added her on Instagram, but didn’t reach out immediately. Days passed, and she slipped my mind. Then, one day, while hanging out on my balcony with a friend, we saw a girl holding something big at the nearby girls' hostel. We were both puzzled, trying to figure out what it was. That night, while scrolling through Instagram at a party, I came across a story of Gavee holding a huge teddy bear. Suddenly, the dots connected—it was her I had seen from my balcony, and she was living right next to my home! Seizing the moment, I replied to her story, asking if the teddy bear was a Valentine's gift (since it was the day after Valentine's). She said no, and that was my cue to start a conversation. It wasn’t easy at first; I had to put in some serious effort to keep the conversation going. I always made sure to end each message with a question, just to keep her engaged. And let me tell you, she took her sweet time replying—little did I know back then that this is just how Gavee is. Even now, if you check her WhatsApp, you’ll find 10 to 20 unread chats that are over a month old! One day, I spotted her with a friend, heading out to get some food. Jokingly, I asked her to bring me a Milo on the way back, never expecting her to actually do it. But to my surprise, she brought me a Red Bull instead. That’s when I realized this could be going somewhere. Finally, one day when she was leaving for campus, I took the opportunity to intercept her. I asked her to walk with me, much to the dismay of her friends, who I politely (or perhaps not so politely) told to go another way. Despite being a senior, I was a bit nervous, but she agreed. As we walked, she talked nonstop for the entire five minutes to campus, which gave me just enough time to ask for her number. She refused, but I confidently challenged her that I would get it by the end of the day. True to my word, on my way back, I called a mutual friend, got her number, and called her immediately to declare my victory. She was shocked and kept pestering me about who gave me her number, but I never revealed the source. Eventually, I deleted her number and told her I’d get it from her someday—until then, we’d keep chatting on Instagram. Time went on, and my graduation day arrived. I asked her to take a picture with me, but she said no—a decision she now regrets! But that day, as a graduation gift, she finally gave me her number. A few days later, on March 1st, 2020, Gavee said yes when I asked her to be my girlfriend.
