We separately enjoyed the peace and not-so-quiet of videogames and meeting online friends through those games. But fate, (and a few mutual friends) brought a goofy Canadian boy and a smart American girl together by playing games and having fun. As time went on, the fun we had meant more when we were spending it just together. Time and life took us down detours but eventually it brought us back together. We fell in love through pixels on a screen but the first moment we embraced and held each other in our arms will be a memory that lasts forever.
The day was spent surrounded by loved ones. The original plan was set in motion, something quiet and private; until Darian's future Maid of Honor stepped in and pulled some strings that turned this moment from memorable to timeless. A sunset casting a warm palette of colors across Charleston Lake with a calm summer breeze hugging us with anticipation. The stage was set at the edge of the dock, candle lights shine our walkway, rose petals flutter at our feet. This is the moment, words only meant for us to hear were spoken, and on one knee I went. Fumbling through his pocket is the box and the question is asked. But something is wrong... A confused face from Darian looks to the box and as I turn it around, a shock runs through my veins. I look to her in fear; I forgot the ring all the way home in Canada. I look our audience as they reflect the same shock we show them, Darian knew I would do something like this. I retreat back up the dock and while giving the performance of a lifetime, I retrieve the real box from my future Mother-in-Law. I turn to my love with the BIGGEST shit-eating grin I've ever smiled. The prank was a success thanks to my years in theatre. Darian is relieved, albeit maybe a little ticked off but I knew in my heart her answer. Once more, I swiftly take one knee and as the last words left my mouth, Darian answered, "Yes."
