How We Met

6.30.2021

It all started with a phone call to Lakeside Village Apartments. Not once, not twice, but three times that day. As the ringing echoed off the walls, the staff all threw their hands up in outrage wondering why the Humane Society of Macomb would be calling for a third time. Ryan, being the humble man that he is, calmed down the staff and told them he would take the call. Madison was on the receiving end to his clever how do you do; "Lakeside Village Apartments, this is Ryan." Madison found his humor, and lighting quick wit charming, and charismatic. They exchanged a few jokes, then ended the phone call. Madison made a bold move. She sat down, took a couple deep breaths, built up the courage, dialed the number back, and handed the phone to a coworker. To no avail, as she was greeted with a voicemail. Ryan then tried to call back numerous times over the course of three weeks to return the ever so vague voicemail he had received. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, he got in touch with said coworker. Ryan, not so hesitantly, released his phone number, only to be greeted a mere six hours later with a gif of Jim Gaffigan waving. Just a week later they went on their first date. Ryan took Madison to a five star, most luxurious dining establishment he knew. Chili's on Hall Road. With no remorse, Madison and Ryan racked up a bill getting to know each other whilst sharing endless chips and salsa, along with a couple of margaritas. After mistakenly staying past close, the pair continued their date in the parking lot. Lost in conversation, they looked at the time and realized it was after 2am. They couldn't justify staying out any later since it was, in fact, a Thursday and work is still a thing that has to happen. Truly a night that is one for the books.

The Proposal

5.13.23

Ryan wanted to give Madison a Detroit experience outside of going to a concert or an event. They started with breakfast at Iggy's Eggies, paired perfectly with a couple coffees from Cannell. From there they drove over to Eastern Market for Madison to get a few more babies. I mean plants. Finishing their visit at Eastern Market, they ventured to Bell Isle. After a walk around the park and appreciating the fountain, they journeyed back downtown. Their next stop: Old Shillelagh. After a couple Lemon Drops, and a few games of darts, Ryan took Madison to one of his favorite bars, Spkr Box. Another drink in that unique setting, Ryan took Madison Across the street to The Ballroom. A basement arcade stocked full of old fashioned, and some new games. Nearing the evening, it was time for their last place to visit in Detroit. The Monarch Lounge. A rooftop bar overseeing the true beauty of Detroit, and seeing the city they spent the day in from a birdseye view. Once they finished their appetizers and drinks, it was time for the final stop of the day. The park in downtown Rochester where the exchanged their first "I love you" to each other. As the sun started to fade lower, and nerves raised higher, Ryan, with his heart beating out of his chest, got down on one knee and asked Madison the final boss question. After some profanities spewed by Madison, Ryan stood up and slid the ring on her finger. They then went home, where Ryan had one last surprise. He brought Madison to the clubhouse where they live to be greeted with an explosion of hugs and congratulations from some of our closest loved ones. That's our fairytale, and if you've made it this far, come up to us and say "pumpernickel". If you do, we will take you on an ice cream date. Ciao.
