We can't wait to celebrate with you!!
On the first day of Winter quarter during their freshman year at the University of Washington, Katie walked in to Chemistry 152 and scanned for a place to sit in the 200 person lecture hall. She felt her phone vibrate and looked down to see a text from Chris (who had gotten her number from one of their mutual friends at some point during Autumn quarter) inviting her to sit with him. She joined him in the back of the lecture hall, where they proceeded to distract each other from paying attention to the lectures for the rest of the quarter. Needless to say they both made it out of that class without their highest marks, but more importantly the beginning of a friendship that would change their lives. After months of spending time together as "friends", they made their relationship official on October 14th, 2013.
For Christmas of 2018, Chris surprised Katie with a hot air balloon trip to be redeemed once the weather got nicer. To Katie it was an exciting but unexpected gift (as she had always dreamed of riding in a hot air balloon), but to Chris it was the beginning of a plan 6 months in the making. When Spring came around Katie booked the balloon ride for an open Saturday, hoping for good weather and having no idea she was technically planning the date of her proposal. The balloon launched that evening from Auburn, and with Mount Rainier as a backdrop it took them soaring over beautiful green fields and forests before dipping low over the White River. When they were so close to the river they could hear the water rushing and smell the pine trees, Katie turned around to find Chris on one knee, asking her to spend the rest of their lives together. As the evening came to an end they landed, popped a bottle of french champagne, enjoyed delicious chocolate croissants, and watched the glow of the sun set on Mount Rainier.
2021: A lot has changed in the last year! Katie and Chris are now based in Edmonds, Washington where they purchased their first home in October. Weekends have looked a lot different lately, with more emphasis on power tools, drywall mud, and tiling projects than exotic trips and live music. But fixing up their little home has been a rewarding, albeit challenging, experience. They also became parents! ;) Katie and Chris welcomed home their golden retriever puppy named Mogul in April and life has never been more chaotic or more full. 2019: From their home base of Fremont, Washington, there's nothing Katie and Chris love more than going on an adventure. In their time together they've soaked in the sun on the beaches of Mexico and Hawaii, raced down snowy mountains in Washington, Canada, and Montana, tasted wines in Walla Walla, played with elephants and tried scuba diving in Thailand, backpacked the Washington coast, and danced through lots of music festivals. In their down time you can usually find them in Seattle spending time with friends or family, cheering on the UW Huskies, going to a concert, or crafting up a new elaborate dish in their tiny apartment kitchen.
