Brian and Alexa were both a part of Greek life at the University of Hartford, but their paths did not cross until a cold New England night in February 2011 at a party at Brian's fraternity house. The exact meet cute differs as Brian insists Alexa grabbed his hand and Alexa says she would never do that. However it happened, they got to talking and numbers were exchanged. Those numbers were never used. For two months, every time Brian saw Alexa at the bar he would ask her when they were hanging out, but never make plans. The back and forth came to an end one night when Alexa stops Brian and says, "Never, we're never hanging out because..." Brian interrupts her with a kiss. Nearly a decade later, Alexa has continued to learn that Brian will always surprise her and always does things in his own time.

Alexa has thought Brian might propose many times on many trips over the years. So, when they were on a weekend getaway in Riverhead, NY, she tried to push the thought of it happening away. Right before they went to dinner one night, Brian asked Alexa if she wanted to sit outside when they got back. As much as she tried not to jump to conclusions, she leaped. When they returned to their cottage, Alexa started changing into comfortable clothes and is immediately reprimanded by Brian. He tells her to put her dinner outfit back on! A confused Alexa obeys and they head outside. After a few minutes sitting outside, Brian asks Alexa to close her eyes for a second. When she opens them she finds Brian down on one knee. The first thing he says is, "I've been so excited to do this!" Followed by, "Will you marry me?" Of course, Alexa said, "Yes!"
