How did we meet? We met at Southern University Law Center. Tiffany’s Perspective: Fred and I met at Law School. It’s weird because I initially told myself that I was here to learn about the law and I wasn’t looking for a man… Yeah, I had a boyfriend by the end of our first semester! During our first few days of school, the atmosphere was weird because not many people were familiar with the other cohort members and law school is very competitive, so you are trying to find out who’s for you and who’s against you. I remember seeing Fred, but I did not know his name. It wasn’t until we were in Lawyering Processing and the roll was being called. All I heard was “Scott” and myself along with another guy (male) said “Here”! We looked at one another and then the professor proceeded to say “Fred Scott” and “Tiffany Scott”. After that, we really didn’t talk. Like I said, I was focused on work and school and not finding a man. Weeks had gone by and we would make small conversations here and there. I disclosed that I lived in Monroe for two years for graduate school and we bonded over that. One day, he informed me that he had to go to Lake Charles for work and asked that I give him notes for the day he would miss. During that conversation, he asked for my number so that we could exchange that information. First text message to me said, “Hey Scott; this is Scott!” Only thought I had was man this dude is corny, but it was cute. First date: Fred asked me earlier in the semester to go out on a date. Because I had a lot going on with school and work and had just informed a friend that I would attend her birthday dinner, I had to decline. Throughout the semester, we would continue making small conversations with one another and every time I would look around, Fred was never too far away. He, being Mr. Cop, would always walk me to my car every night. By now, we were in December, and I really loved the play “Black Nativity” and wanted to see it in person at LSU. During one of our walks to my car, I told him about the play and how much I wanted to see it so he took me and we enjoyed the show. I still have the Play Bill to commemorate our first date. We also went to Red Robin afterwards. The Proposal: I wasn’t feeling well and had my night gown on and hair bonnet (don’t judge) and was laying down trying to relax and go to sleep. Fred walked in the back and came back out and proceeded to get on one knee and pulled out my engagement ring. He said a bunch of sweet things that I don’t remember but I do remember him asking, with his puppy dog eyes, me to marry him and of course I said YES!
My first impression about Tiffany was “unpredictable”. I could never make out whether she was interested in me or not. It was in the Fall of 2016 when we entered law school and we were enrolled in all of the same classes. I couldn’t help but notice her light complexion along with her Curly Sue hair. I was interested so I approached with a purpose, hoping to start a conversation. The first thing I said to her was “Hey Ms. Scott, My name is Fred Scott!” (LOL) She smiled and it was a good vibe for me because I was able to break the ice between us. Also, when I was able to get up close to her during our first conversation, I noticed she had green eyes… I said to myself “I like this girl” and we need to see more of each other aside from the classroom. Eventually, we begin to engage in more conversations that led to our first real date. Not only do I remember the first time I asked her out but I can also recall the response I got from her. I was at the barbershop when I ask her to hang out with me. Her response was like: She had other plans with her girlfriends and “We can always hang out some other time”. I was like, “What?! Ok!” ( LOL) I took that as she wasn’t interested… But she eventually called me back… Yes!!!! Apparently, she must have sense that I wasn’t going to try my luck twice and got the message! So we scheduled our first date together which was on a Sunday afternoon, December 18, 2016 to be exact! She wanted to see the “Black Nativity”, a Christmas play that was being held at LSU. From that moment on, it has been on ever since! When I proposed to Tiffany, I wanted to catch her off guard. See, I wanted her to expect the unexpected and I was able to do just that! She was wearing her mumu’s, had a night cap over her head and was ready to watch a movie and go to sleep. That’s when I began to have one of our many pillow talks but only this time I wasn’t laying down. Unexpectedly, I got down on one knee and told her how much she meant to me as a person and how much I loved her and then I asked her to marry me. And then expectedly, she felt the same way and that’s why I’m writing you my personal love story!
