The short version - we both went to college at Xavier University & Garrett asked me out at Panera.The long, better version - It was Junior year finals week.I habitually studied in the library, but for the sake of switching it up for finals week, I chose to study at Panera this time around.I look a mess, again, its finals week.I notice that some of the Xavier soccer team have come in to eat, but I didn't think much of it.My head is down in my notecards, headphones in, & I am absolutely startled when Garrett sits down at my table.I rip my head phones out and say "you scared the crap out of me!"He goes onto say that he knows my best friend, Jackie, and has seen me around on campus & would love to take me out on a date sometime & asks for my number.My face is positively beat red at this point. I am shocked. I thought - this is so sweet, who does this anymore?!And then I also thought, ok I have a boyfriend, but I cannot possibly turn this guy down after he put himself out there like this.So, I quickly decide that I will just give him my number, but never let anything come of it.For the next couple of weeks,I get texts from Garrett asking me to do this & that with his friends.Each time I turn him down due to studying or other plans (when really its because I have a boyfriend lol).Time goes on and the texts stop. I learned later that Garrett asked one of my classmates what my situation was and she broke the news to him that I had a boyfriend..lol. Summer came & my said boyfriend ended things.July 26th came around and I saw on Facebook that it was Garrett Halfhill's birthday.I am instantly reminded of the sweet guy that sat down at my table to ask me out.I messaged him on Facebook wishing him happy birthday & told him I "got a new phone" so he should text me sometime! In reality, I never saved his number, because, again, I had a boyfriend.We ended up texting throughout summer. Senior year started.The first week he asked me out on a date - it was pizza & it was perfect.
