How It All Began...

July 30th, 2018

First...we have to go way back to 11 years ago. We originally met in St. Joe in college (2009 to be specific). We hung out with a group once and went to Warped Tour. We had lots of the same friends, hung out at most of the same places all throughout college but never really saw or talked to each other. Not sure how that's even possible! We were even in a Fraternity/Sorority that always did things together. Fast forward to 2018 and we were both now living in Kansas City and just happened to work out at the same gym. We had started noticing each other in the gym for a couple months leading up to us finally meeting again but it was just that..."noticing" each other but not saying anything. Finally, one day Emily waved to Jason while she was on the elliptical and when he waved back she took out her headphones to say hi but as she started to talk, he waved and kept. on. walking! Emily felt pretty silly and tried to play it cool. (There are most definitely still jokes about that from time to time) Then, months later (FINALLY) on July 30th, 2018, Emily was very late getting to the gym but it just so happened that Jason was just leaving! LUCKY! Emily (almost literally) ran into Jason and finally said hi and they talked for quite a while! (That's our favorite spot at the gym now. When we walk past it we get cheesy grins on our faces!) Then, not long after, Emily made a bold move and slid into his DMs. (For those that don't know what that means...she made the first move and sent Jason a message 😉)

The Most Perfect Proposal

October 6th, 2018

It was October 6th, 2019, Jason and Emily's 1 year anniversary! Jason is in the Missouri Air National Guard so he was on base at Rosecrans in St. Joe that day for drill. It was a Sunday so Emily was headed to church by herself per usual when it's Jason's drill weekend. As Emily was walking out of church service one of her and Jason's friends, Jack, took her by the arm, pulled her aside and started asking her questions about an upcoming event the church was having and if she was going to volunteer. Emily was confused because her and Jack had already had this conversation but he kept talking as if the conversation had never happened. As they were walking and talking, Jack looked at one of the security guards and the security guard mouthed "is that her?" That's when Emily was like, okay, what is going on?! Then Jack walked her a little further and Jason walked out from behind a wall with a huge smile on his face and said "Happy Anniversary!" Emily was so shocked and happy to see him there! She just assumed Jason got out of drill early to have lunch with her! But then he said he had something to ask her and right there in the lobby at church, he got down on one knee and completely surprised her by asking her to be his wife! Emily had absolutely no idea that while she was sitting in church that day Jason was nervously driving from St. Joe back to Kansas City for the 3 hours they let him leave drill to propose! It was the sweetest moment and that was the most perfect place to propose!

For all the days along the way
