To make travel easier, please fly into the Kona Airport. It is around 35 minutes from the Mauna Kea. RENTAL CAR If you are planning on exploring the island, we highly recommend renting a car. There are Ubers, but they do tend to have longer wait times and are less accessible in more rural areas.
