We met in Philadelphia on a dating app and had one of the best first dates, talking and laughing for so long over martinis, penicillins (the drink, not the antibiotic!), and charcuterie until the restaurant kicked us out. That of course led to Allison showing off her electrofishing boat (work was just next door!), which somehow didn't scare Mike off, and dancing until close at a bar with a really horrible DJ. Turns out, we only lived three blocks from each other! We (and our 3 cats) have been happily together ever since and still frequently partake in cocktail, charcuterie, and dancing nights :)
We got engaged on Good Friday during the beginning of quarantine, and it definitely was the best Friday! Mike set up an amazing surprise and caught Allison completely off guard. A little backstory: Mike works for a company called goPuff which delivers food, alcohol, etc. and we used to joke all the time about how all Allison was getting was a Ring Pop someday. So on this Friday night we ordered some snacks and beer from goPuff (as usual). When the doorbell rang Mike went out to get it. What Allison didn't know was that our great friend and neighbor, Andie (thank you Andie!!!!!) was holding onto the ring and a bottle of champagne and she met Mike outside to slip it into our goPuff bag. When Allison was unpacking the bag she was surprised and excited that they "accidentally" put in a bottle of champagne and a Ring Pop! (or so she thought at first). Mike then told her to open the Ring Pop, which turns out he had 3D printed, and inside was a ring! Allison was so thrilled and surprised, it took her 2 hours to calm down enough to call family and friends. Mike did an amazing job at this surprise!
