FAQs

Just a few tidbits regarding the wedding weekend, venue, booking, etc.
Question

Do I have a plus one?

Answer

Yes. Everyone is welcome to bring their spouse, significant other, or come single if they wish.

Question

Are kids allowed?

Answer

The Hyatt Ziva is a kid-friendly resort and we are allowing kids to come to the wedding, however, 98% of people attending are leaving their kids at home or bringing someone to Mexico with them to watch their kids so they can pass out on a pool floaty in the beating sun with a margarita in hand!

Question

Is the wedding in the sand?

Answer

No, the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception are all on hard flooring (with the exception of some grass to sit in your seat at the ceremony), but overlooking the ocean. So ladies, feel free to wear those heels if you wish!

Question

What is the wedding attire?

Answer

Beach chic! ...Yea, we're not sure what that means either but we read it in a wedding blog and it sounded cool. Basically no jeans, but beach-vibe dressy. Or just plain dressy if that's your swag! Slacks or khakis type stuff for the men. The Groom/groomsmen will be wearing a coat for the ceremony only (no ties) and taking them off immediately after. Coats are not recommended unless you're trying to sweat pounds off. Ladies can't go wrong with any type of maxi, midi, mini, whatever dress. The bride will more than likely not even wear heels.

Question

What day should I arrive?

Answer

If you're in the wedding party, there'll be a rehearsal + event/dinner of sorts to follow on Thursday afternoon/night, 8/26. So ideally you'd be able to make it to that, but we also understand that work, kids, and just plain life get in the way. If you're not in the wedding party and are just curious as to what people are planning, most people have booked from WED or THURS to SUN, depending if you want 3 or 4 nights.

Question

What does an all-inclusive entail?

Answer

The Hyatt Ziva Cancun is an all-inclusive resort, meaning all food and beverages (including alcohol) are included in the price of your room. This resort has 7-8 restaurants on site, snack bars, ceviche bars, coffee shop, candy store, room service 24/7, breakfast buffet, etc. all included. There is no limit whatsoever. The things NOT included with the all-inclusive are: spa services, water sports (jet skis, parasailing, etc.), swimming with the dolphins (yes, dolphins are on property), and some other random things.

Question

What's customary for tipping?

Answer

We suggest bringing $1 and $5 bills. Everyone gladly accepts US Dollars, so no need to convert to pesos. Although tips and gratuities are technically included in the price of the room, it is customary for guests to tip each server or waiter, but not nearly as much as you do in the States. We usually tip $1 per drink and at sit-down restaurants, we'll typically tip $5-$10 to the waiter. It also just depends on what you're comfortable with as tipping isn't mandatory.

Question

What are their drink options?

Answer

Most National and International liquors will be available. Kettle One, Titos, Crown, Jameson, Jose Cuervo, etc. A variety of specialty spirits and bottles, such as champagne and first-rate wines are available for purchase. Sometimes they'll also have brands hidden that are available as part of the all-inclusive as they try to use the mid-level liquors whenever possible. Just ask and see if they have what you're wanting even if it's not displayed.

Question

Are there dietary alternatives?

Answer

Yes, the Hyatt Ziva offers gluten-free and vegetarian options, along with others upon asking. Please make sure to tell the hotel prior to arrival or upon check-in so they can make note of it in their system. Every restaurant will ask for your room number upon entry and will have allergies or dietary restrictions listed in which they'll confirm with you and hand to your server.

Question

Is there room service?

Answer

Yes, room service is 24/7 and included in the all-inclusive. However, alcohol service to your room only goes from 11am - 11pm so plan accordingly. You can still get alcohol outside of these hours at restaurants on property.

Question

Can I drink the local water?

Answer

No. Hyatt Ziva will provide water bottles in your room, and restock each day when they clean. More bottles are available at any restaurant.

Question

Do I need an electrical adapter?

Answer

No. Every room and area in the hotel is equipped with our same outlets.

Question

How far is the resort from the airport?

Answer

It is 30 min. away. We HIGHLY suggest utilizing the transfer option available when booking a room through our rooming block as it's by far the cheapest we've seen. It's a private shuttle (meaning only going to our resort and not stopping at other resorts along the way - but others from our group may be in the same shuttle as you), and costs $38.79 round trip, per person. A one-way for half the price is an option should you be staying longer and going somewhere else in Cancun. Ubers are available in Mexico, but they're unreliable and more expensive.

Question

Is there anything nearby?

Answer

Yes, there are bars and restaurants nearby that are within walking distance and a mall down the road. But mostly this strip is filled with resorts one after another. You can leave the resort at any time you wish, but obviously the all-inclusive perks are only offered by the restaurants on the resort property.

Question

Can I go on a tour or excursion?

Answer

Yes! There are a ton of tours and excursions in Cancun as they are known for their ruins and cenotes where you can dive in, snorkel and explore the caves. There's also zip-lining, rock climbing, boat trips, water sports, etc. All of these things are additional costs. If interested ahead of time, feel free to contact Patrick and Lauren as they can get you a discount through their agency they're working with.

Question

What other cool cities are nearby?

Answer

South of Cancun are two very popular areas, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. This is where the majority of tours and excursions take place and have a lot of variety in things to do. This is going to be an hour + away however, so make sure you plan your day out if you're planning on visiting. There's also the small island, Isla Mujeres, just north of Cancun and Cozumel Island just south of where we are. Very cool islands that tend to be a bit calmer.
