How We Met

Kevin and Emily met like many couples in this day and age - through an app. Kevin opened the conversation by asking for clarification on Emily's unease around any creature with more than 4 legs, and Emily was thrilled that he was unique and didn't ask about her worst ever date (she used that prompt to be funny, turns out it was too funny). After promising that he'd handle any bugs they may encounter, they managed to work around Emily's hectic busy season hours and scheduled their first date.

Our First Few Dates

Emily and Kevin met in-person for the first time outside of a sports bar. Because neither of them are basketball people, they didn't realize that it was the 2nd day of March Madness, and that they'd have to wait 45 minutes just for a seat at the bar. Needless to say, they made a quick pivot and decided to go across the street to a BBQ restaurant Kevin remembered from his childhood, Hoggy's. After they ordered at the counter, they sat down at a booth and got to chatting. The conversation flowed, and things were going great! As time went on, they realized that the restaurant was eerily quiet. It hit them that they had chosen to eat at a BBQ restaurant on a Friday during Lent, and they were the only customers in the restaurant. They then realized that the staff were constantly checking on them. Kevin turned to Emily and said "Do you think it's obvious we're on a first date?" After the 20th time they were asked if they needed anything, it was determined that yes, it was obvious it was a first date and they were the staff's entertainment for the night. Undeterred, Kevin and Emily talked until about 5 minutes before the restaurant closed, then finally decided it was best to call it a night, but not before agreeing that it was the best first date either of them had been on and agreed to do it again. The next week, Emily drove down to Kevin's stomping grounds and they met for dinner at the Grove City Brewing Company. After they were seated, the conversation picked back up and didn't stop. The poor waitress had to stop by three separate times to ask if they were ready to order, and each time the answer was no because they had been so focused on each other they hadn't looked at the menu. The 2nd date went so well, the world's most patient waitress said that the two of them had barely taken their eyes off of each other and it was absolutely adorable. They finished the evening with a stroll around downtown Grove City. When Emily dropped Kevin off at his house, they both knew that they had found something special.

The Proposal

On a lovely fall morning, Kevin and Emily went out to do some apple picking, which had been a favorite date from the last year. Having enjoyed their fall festivities, and just before they packed away their fruits and pumpkins, Kevin excused himself and ran back to the main store to "pick something up". Hiding his new purchase from Emily under the excuse of it being a birthday gift for her, the couple returned home and a suspiciously excited and fast driving Kevin promised that Emily, who is notoriously inquisitive about gifts, could have one of her birthday gifts right then. Gathered in their family room, Kevin then presented Emily, not with a gift from the apple orchard, but instead with a custom wooden jigsaw puzzle with the image of their first date at the apple orchard on it! Encouraged by Kevin to work on the puzzle right then, the couple sat down and got to work (for what turned out to be two and a half hours of puzzling because the people designing these things are lying about their difficulty.) As they assembled, it became clear that some of the pieces were romance themed, but it seemed that one was missing from the set! Emily was extremely annoyed, and Kevin promised that he would call and get a replacement from the company. When the puzzle was finally completed however, the missing piece was revealed to be in the shape of entwined wedding rings! Kevin then got down on one knee and produced both the missing puzzle piece and the engagement ring to the woman who fit so perfectly together with him, just like the pieces of the puzzle.
