Katy honors a Goddess spirituality represented by the moon and has been a moon daughter really since she was much younger but dared not admit it for the controversy it causes in conservative Christian families. While Katy acknowledges that the Divine is without and totally encompassing of gender, the Goddess line of spirituality feels most calming and resonant with her. March 4th is a waxing moon. For Katy, the waxing moon is a building of magical energies. It is a building of potentials and things to unfold with great promise. Other than on the full moon itself, a wedding on a waxing moon is full of great things for new partners to embark upon together
David is agnostic. Katrina/ Katy is a self-affirmed wandering witch. She is a wanderer in that she finds aspects of various spiritual beliefs that align with her core sense of self and the universe. She is a witch in that she respects the magic within each of us and the magic that can be observed in the natural world. Katy also tends to refer to the Goddess and is a Goddess centered practitioner of the spirit. She does not believe the divine has a specific gender, but is all encompassing of gender and its spectacle. However, for her, the Goddess as an inconography, a godot, of relating to the Divine is what comforts her the most. Katy's spiritual traditions are in constant growth and consideration. She was baptized Catholic, was raised in the conservative Missouri Synod of the Lutheran church, and finds church family in the open and affirming, welcoming Friends Congregational Church, UCC. She is open to listening to your views on faith, spirituality, and what comes next beyond this plane
Traditional Christian wedding: Katy's roots are in the Christian church. She honors that part of herself and that of her family of faith through the inclusion of this aspect of ceremony into her vows to David Handfasting: Katy is a self-proclaimed wanderer and witch. She has high respect for the Wiccan and Pagan traditions and honors the fae folk as much as she is Goddess centered in her approach. To this end, a handfasting ceremony will be included in the wedding to honor these aspects of herself, her life, and her spirituality with David. Centerpieces: The centerpieces at the wedding are comprised of Ivy, and a vial of dried Rowan berries. Ivy represents the Goddess and the green/life/growth aspect of Katy's faith. "Traditionally the Rowan is thought to be a witch tree. It is a tree of the Goddess and is sacred to the faeries." Its berries form a natural pentagram, a sigil of protection. It is said to both be a tree of witches and a tree to ward off witches. In Katy's opinion, the symbolic dissonance, demonstrates the cleverness of the healer women and men before her, who turned negative into positive. The Grove of Windchimes / The Elder Grove: Katy and David will be married underneath the trees in front of Friends Congregational Church. Katy's considers this grouping of trees to be an Elder Grove. Many of the trees around Friend's church have windchimes hung in remembrance and honor of lives that have blessed Friends church family. Of these is one dedicated to Robin Griffiths, Katy's wife, who died in February of 2019. Robin loved puppies and horror movies. The sail on Robin's windchime has on the front "Robin Griffiths 7/7/66 - 2/13/19" on the obverse is written "Let's Pet Puppy Belly and Watch horror movies" with a paw print. This wedding honors Robin and her relationship with Katy as much as it honors Katy's new relationship with David. Robin often told Katy, "I want you to find happiness when I am gone." It is a sentiment Katy shares with David
Katy as she is known by loved ones and friends has been doing LGBTQ+ activism and community education since 2003. Katy's legal name is Katrina, a name meaning both purity and a reference to the goddess of witches, Hecate, the triple faced goddess. Katrina has traditionally used her legal name for certain professional matters, but is beginning to see those worlds of professional and activism merge in her leadership and her life works. As such, she uses Katrina "Katy" Dawn Stewart herein to have something that all who know her can recognize her by
