how we met

June 8, 2019

While Layne was packing and collecting last minute things for her summer of traveling, Steven was serving at Lincoln Berean. While serving, Steven met a few of Layne's close friends who did some matchmaking and ended up giving Steven Layne's phone number. Steven reached out and Layne excitedly said yes to their first date. They spent 8 hours together talking, eating and taking in the fact that this blind date was actually going well. They talked about life, travels, friends and their love for Jesus. After hours had passed just talking they looked at each other, Steven laughed and said, “I’ve got a lot of friends praying over this date.” It was so evident! Because Layne was traveling a majority of the summer they spent a lot of time talking on the phone and catching adventurous dates every couple weeks. At the end of July, Steven casually said, “I’ve been calling you my girlfriend to my friends…”, to which Layne did not argue. Summer slowed down and turned to fall and harvest. Dating was full of Friday night dates in the tractor, car rides, long talks in the car wherever they were, cooking together and easy Sunday afternoons. The holidays brought road trips to Omaha, Valentine and Ohio to visit family and friends. It was during these road trips that we both started to realize we could do this forever—it was fun, comfortable, our conversations only went deeper and there was a peace that this thing we had was good.

the proposal

February 22, 2020

Steven had been wanting to go out to a pond near his place for a walk. So, while out for a walk one morning in the perfect clear away, near the water (Layne's favorite place to be!), Steven got down on one knee and asked Layne to marry him! With all the confidence in Steven and what Christ had brought together, Layne said yes! We're so thankful for Gods graciousness and His creativity in bringing the two of us together. There are so many moments we look back on in our lives, before each other and since each other, and feel overwhelmed by his sovereignty and redemption in our stories. We're so thankful we get to love each other for the rest of our lives.
