Question

Do you have any tips for traveling to Colombia?

Answer

Yes! Language - even a few words of Spanish will make your experience so much better. Water - try and only drink bottled water to be safe, no one wants you to risk the runs. Airport to Hotel - either schedule the hotel shuttle or an uber, do not take a taxi from the airport. Cellphone Security - avoid walking down the street with your phone out. There are sticky fingers out there. Politeness matters - Colombians value courtesy so a simple 'Buenos Dias" or "Buenas Tardes" is important. Cash vs Credit Card - You can order some Colombian Pesos (COP) from your bank or change some at the airport. Restaurants and most stores accept credit cards. However, street vendors, small markets, etc will only take cash. Check your receipts before paying! Golden Rule in Colombia = No Dar Papaya. This translates to 'Don't give Papaya' which means do not be an easy target by flashing valuables.
