The summer of 2015 brought Gabrielle to the Ausable Club for her second summer working in the Pastry Kitchen at the mountain resort. Meanwhile, Steven was leaving Buffalo and headed up to Northern New York to work a summer job in the kitchen at a club nestled within the gorgeous scenery of the Adirondack Mountains. All the employees of this resort stayed in a little cluster of cabins known as the “PDR” where one by one, the summers staff arrived. One sunny day as Steven sat outside on a bench, listening to music and sharpening his knives to be ready for work, a red beetle had pulled up to the cabins the night before. Gabrielle drove from Chicago with her Father across the Great Lakes region to the Adirondacks for her summertime excursion. On the trip they stopped to see family members living along the way , notably passing by Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Their journey ended by pulling up to the cabins where Gabi would stay, parking the Red Bug named ‘Betty’ in the dark. The next morning they unpacked her red bug as a man sat on the bench outside sharpening his knives.
