Black tie is a formal evening dress code. For our wedding, men are not required to wear a black tuxedo as typically suggested; however, you will note traditional black tie dress includes a white shirt, and black bow tie. Women should wear a floor-length evening dress or a highly formal cocktail dress. It is less formal than "white tie" but strictly more formal than "black-tie optional" or "cocktail". Black Tie for Men Suggestions Jacket: Black or midnight blue dinner jacket. Trousers: Matching trousers with a trimmed outseam. Shirt: White or other solid dress shirt, turndown collar, and cuffs. Neckwear: A formal tie or bow tie. Waist Covering: A black cummerbund or waistcoat is traditional but optional. Shoes: Polished shoes. Accessories: Dress socks and/or cufflinks. Black Tie for Women Suggestions: Dress: A floor-length evening gown is the standard. Elegant, sophisticated cocktail dresses (knee-length or longer) are acceptable. Fabrics: Luxe fabrics like silk, velvet, chiffon, or crepe are preferred. Color/Style: Formal colors. Avoid overly casual attire. Accessories: Jewelry, a small clutch bag, and heels
