How we met

First comes work, then comes marriage.

Lyna and Steve met at work, on Lyna's first day at work actually. It's funny how the company they work for makes connectors and they ended up making quite a connection over those connectors. Lyna was a Quality engineer and Steve was a Manufacturing engineer. They would cross paths from time to time. It all started with worms... worm reports to be specific. They would go out for lunch and happy hour with colleagues and this is how they they started to get to know each other. During one of the outings, for whatever reason, the topic of worms came up and Lyna disclosed to Steve her terrifying fear of worms. Not logical, but a fear nonetheless. One day at work, Steve emailed Lyna to ask her to help review one of his reports. Not knowing what was about to unfold, Lyna opened the professionally titled report and to her surprise, it was a picture of a worm (maybe there were more) and Lyna might have let out a tiny scream. Luckily, there was only one other co-worker in the room at the time. If Lyna hadn't known that Steve had a good intention, that could have ended very differently. They continued to get to know each other outside of work, going to breweries and events around town. Their love for outdoors also brought them to going to their first national parks together: Zion and Bryce Canyon. And before they knew it, they went on to explore lots of other places together.

The Proposal

Simple and Beautiful

The topic of marriage had come up a few times before the proposal. It's a risky endeavor to pick out a ring without any input from the wearer, and Steve was not willing to take that risk. The hint had been dropped and the feedback had been given; a simple but elegant ring. All the extra bells and whistles (and diamonds) were not needed, but instead keep the focus on the main event. This design philosophy could describe the proposal as well. It was a cold night in January, three years after the couples' first kiss. The date was being celebrated as their 'dating anniversary' (an excuse to go and try fancy restaurants). Steve's plan was as straightforward as the ring hidden in his pocket; a fancy dinner, a bottle of champagne hidden in the back of the fridge, and a question. Returning home from the restaurant full and happy, Steve brought out the bubbly. After a decidedly un-smooth uncorking, the two flutes were filled. Then finally in a simple but intimate and beautiful moment, the question was asked and the engagement began.
