The two knew each other when they attended Reedley High School in the 1950’s, and during Steve’s senior year and Carol’s junior year, they dated a while. Steve invited Carol to go to his Senior Prom together. After high school, they went their separate ways, married other people, but remained friends as couples, Carol with husband Marc and Steve eventually with wife Sheila. They would meet with other friends at each other’s homes or on vacation breaks. Carol lived in Granada Hills by the 2000’s and Steve lived in Rocklin, 400 miles apart. They remained just friends for over sixty years. Sadly, both became caregivers and then widow/widower. This past May, they both attended a Garrigus open house in Fresno, becoming reacquainted, and where Steve suggested they consider becoming travel partners. After several days, and after consulting with daughter Jennifer on the drive home, Carol agreed to Steve’s offer. Steve visited Carol several times and the two communicated often by email, over which time they fell in love and decided they wanted to do more than just travel as friends; they decided they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Quickly, they decided they wanted to be married as well. They planned three OAT trips for 2020 (the first of which will double as a honeymoon), as well as trips to Puerto Vallarta and Maui/Kauai in January and February. Steve had offered to take Carol out for her birthday in December, and he asked if she preferred the gift of a friendship ring or an engagement ring. Carol replied, “A friendship ring?!?!!, No Way!” So, the deal was made, and the preparations began. Steve formally proposed on December 2, 2019. Thus, the stage was set for a wedding at Hidden Hollow on April 18, 2020.
