His: We were out at the OC boardwalk and told Mikey to pretend to push the group Shelly was with off the rails they were sitting on, not realizing he knew a couple of her friends from school. If we never encouraged him to do that, Shelly and I would have never met. Her: I was hanging out with some high school friends on the OC boardwalk one night and this big ole ginger came up to us flirtaciously pretentding to push us off the boardwalk rails. Steve was with him so we were introduced. He had an energy drink that night so he was HYPE. I only knew him as "Crazy Steve" for the longest time because of it. It wasn't necessarily love at first sight because we tried to hook each other up with our friends but that quickly faded.
His: She was quiet and goofy. She didn't have a lot to say but she was always happy and kind. And man, was she a looker! Her: He was crazy hyper from that energy drink and was incredibly outgoing (when in reality, Steve is an introvert homebody like me!) He was also very handsome :)
We went to Applebee's for the "2 for $20" Deal... with the $20 Steve's mom gave us. This was high school, OK? We all had lower expectations.
Shelly woke up at 7:30 am on a Friday (they both had off) to banging around the house and the dryer running. Steve wasn't in bed (he hasn't woken up that early in years!). She got out of bed with crazy messy hair and no pants on to find Steve in a red collared shirt in the hallway. So strange. She told him to go back to bed and climbed back in. Steve had to think of a reason to get Shelly dressed. He said he wanted to take her out to "brunch" (at 7:30 am?) because they had a big day ahead of them prepping for their Housewarming Party the next day. Also weird, he usually doesn't eat until like 6 pm. But Shelly thought it was cute so she got dressed. When she was ready, she went to the kitchen to find him with a photo album. Shelly sat down to go through it in their kitchen - it had photos of the two of them from high school, through college and the house renovation with cute Thomas Rhett "Die a Happy Man" quotes. Then he got down on one knee and (after stumbling over his words a bit) proposed. Shelly was strangely, very calm. It was just the perfect moment. They had champagne on their back porch alone, not telling anyone they were engaged for about 2 hours. Shelly and Steve basked in their engagement, just the two of them.
