In 2016 at Cal State Fullerton, we were introduced by a mutual friend in a study group. Fast forward a year later we ended up running into each other on a completely different campus. At the time we were finishing up our Bachelors degree and wanted to take our last and most important class together so we both dropped our existing class, only to find out we weren't allowed in because it was honors only. Panic set in as we realized this would jeopardize our eligibility to graduate, it was certainly a stressful situation at the time. Thankfully, we were able to get the dean to allow us back into our original classes & although we never were able to take a class together we ultimately graduated together. Looking back we knew it was meant to be when we connected that day. As a graduation celebration we took our first trip as a couple to Kauai, Hawaii shortly afterwards. This was certainly the very beginning of our love story!
As a celebration of Shelby's Mom, Kelli's 50th birthday the family was together in McCall, Idaho. The second day of the family trip we walked out to the waters edge at Shore Lodge to take "family photos." Meanwhile, Sterling had started to feel the pressure of the proposal and starts googling “What to say when you propose” in elevator as we're making our way through the hotel to the beautiful location. Shelby has no idea what is about to happen and is completely oblivious. They make their way outside and take in the beautiful mountain and lake view. He was trying to distract Shelby when fumbling through Kelli's purse to find the ring secured in a sock. After a few photos, Sterling gets on one knee and Shelby looks at the gorgeous ring and naturally says, “Holy sh*t is that for me?” Then the tears started falling. Sterling’s family flew in for a surprise engagement party and they celebrated the weekend together. It was a beautiful moment & great time to blend both families.
