Maid of Honor
The Lord knew what He was doing when He decided to make our birthdays four months apart, because had He not & we had instead ended up in the same year of schooling, then we’d probably still be struggling to complete elementary school to this day! This is my cousin, my ride or die, my bestie, my soul sister from another mister, my ace, the other side of my coin, all of these & more. And even though we’re not actually biological sisters, we’re as close as sisters can be (SO many questionable conversations & situations that’ll go to the grave). She’s also the Cousin Godmama Auntie to the little broke bestie that I brought into this world. She has taught my child the importance of staying classy & sassy by having your outfit, hair, & nails on point at all times. If only everyone had at least one connection in their lives like we do, then I GUARANTEE the world would be a better place!

Meeka and I have known each other for a very, very, very long time. In fact it was so long ago, I don’t actually remember how long its been other than its been less than 30 but more than 25 years. Fun fact, in high school Shameeka and I use to “work” at a business as “receptionists” and “tutors” (in the summer). In truth, we never did any real work. We did, however, eat Chick fil’ A, listen to loud music, watch tv with our feet on the desk, answer the phones….sometimes, talk on the phone (to friends), invite friends to the office and ride around neighborhoods, hanging out the car window pretending to drop flyers in mailboxes. Meeka was the driver and I was hanging out the window. Truly childish behavior lol

“It just was! I can’t recall when or how Shameeka and I met. We’ve known each other and were friendly since our days on the school bus shuttle. But one day, in the distant future, but seemingly in a far away past, our friendship blossomed into one of sisterhood, shared vacations, and charcuterie board game nights!”
Matron of Honor
I have known Meeka my whole life. We have grown from the big cousin that avoided the little cousin as kids to close friends as adults. From Sunday Fundays, motivations, inappropriate convos, and big laughs, I am happy to have her in my life. Thanks for pushing me out of my comfort zone! Congratulations you two!

Shameeka and I met while working at Coca-Cola where we became good friends not only at work but outside of work as well. I was the first person at Coca-Cola who knew Shameeka and Stephen were dating. 🙂

Groomsman
Early in the 1960’s, Dorothy Thompson (my mother) and Greta Benjamin (Steve’s mother) were friends at Washington High School, Atlanta, GA. Because our parents were close friends, we followed in those same footsteps. In our youth, and over several summers, we attended Butler St. YMCA, CAU’s Camp Best Friends, and Camp Cedine. After graduating from high school, we stayed in contact and became more like extended family. Since I can remember, I’ve always known Steve, that will never change. I appreciate Steve’s solid character and morale perspective, which helped create a solid friendship with many friends and associates. With honor, I appreciate this opportunity to serve as groomsman for Steve and Shameeka.

Man as the universe would have it…. I reconnected with Steve (aka…Stevo) as an adult many years later on a music connect. Now if you know Stevo…you know he either knows or remembers damn near errbody he crossed paths with. We would all convene in the sewer every Friday to, drank, talk shit, and the finally create music. (In that order) Me, Stevo, and Joe Bean (can’t have a story without Joe Bean) were talking about summer camp Butler Street YMCA and our camp counselor Rick. I may have been 9/10 when Rick, asked “who all in here can’t swim?!” My dumb ass raised my hand. Rick came over and through me in the deep end…guess you could say that was my first lesson in overcoming adversity and learning to swim. (lol) We laughed and talked shit for hours about Rick and his antics. Turns out Rick through errbody in the deep end. Guess it worked because we are all still here telling these same damn stories. Little did I know, these stories would not only set the foundation for a lot of what I believe in to this day. Hard work, facing adversity head on and kickin its Ass. We are Still first blood the mighty mighty first blood ‼️
