Three months into my role as an attending in the emergency room I was still meeting new nurses. This curly-haired bomb shell introduced herself to me and we moved on to the next patient. Throughout the next several weeks I kept receiving treats from Emily. Little did I know it was from paramedics giving them to her. We began talking over the next several months on Facebook. Fast forward to a patient that needed a sedation and Emily and her student were the primary nurses. Emily administered the ketamine and the patient began to state all of her thoughts to us. The patient stated how she could tell that we like each other. She stated she was watching us all afternoon and we had an undeniable chemistry. My face never has turned as red. I have never been more quiet, but Emily's giggle was all I need to know that I needed to ask this girl out. Next thing I knew we were going on our first date to dinner before my night shift. From that point on there wasn't a day that went by that Emily has not been the first and last thing on my mind. Every time I walk by triage room 1 or procedurally sedate a patient with ketamine I think what my life would be like if I never met Emily. I'm so thankful we took the work place risk on each other and has been the best decision I have ever made. - Stephen
