State of the world

1.25.26

Planning this wedding has not been easy. It has been deeply challenging to hold joy in our hands while witnessing daily the horrific suffering and pain inflicted on Americans and humans around the world. At one point, we very seriously considered cancelling. You may have noticed the Monet paintings woven throughout our website and stationery. I had originally chose Monet for the peaceful softness I’ve always found in his work. Then, on the very day we questioned whether to continue (Jan 25), I discovered that Monet himself wrestled with this same conflict. In 1914, during World War I, he wrote: “I feel ashamed to think about my little researches into form and colour while so many people are suffering and dying…” It felt like the sign we needed - A reminder that even in dark times, creating beauty and holding onto love can be its own form of courage. And still, Monet kept painting. He took sorrow and shaped it into the quiet expansive Water Lilies, works that ultimately honored the hope of peace. Like him, we are learning to carry two truths at once: the heaviness of the world, and the steady, persistent light of hope & love that refuses to go out. So please join us in whatever way feels comfortable for you. Remember: joy is an act of resistance. This day will be both an act of resistance and a safe space, a small sanctuary filled with love, support, and the belief that tenderness is powerful. And above all, we cannot let them win.
