I have put together a document with a list of beginner level hikes! This will help you plan the hikes you might want to do. Hiking is good for the soul and it doesn't have to hurt (haha). If you need more recommendations, let me know! I would love to help!! (Also, please let me know if the document does not work, I will share it with you directly)
This is a must see!! This road is 50 miles end to end. Constructed in the 1920s-30s. The road climbs high into the mountains, crossing the Continental Divide at Logan Pass — the highest point on the road at about 6,646 ft (2,025 m) elevation. It runs east–west across Glacier National Park, connecting: West Glacier / Apgar on the west side St. Mary on the east side ⏱️ Driving time: Without stops: roughly 2 hours Realistically (with overlooks, photos, wildlife spotting): 3–5 hours — and honestly, you’ll want to stop a lot. ** This is the road you will take to get to the ceremony.
🚢 What the Boat Tours Are Like Scenic Cruises with Commentary Tours are usually aboard classic wooden boats with friendly crews giving commentary about the scenery, geology, and park history. Different Locations & Vibes Here are the main tour areas: • Lake McDonald (West Side) – Classic Scenic Tour A popular ~1-hour scenic cruise across Lake McDonald departing near the Lake McDonald Lodge. Great for seeing stunning turquoise water and dramatic mountain reflections. Historic boat DeSmet operates here — she’s been cruising Lake McDonald since 1930. • Two Medicine Lake (East Side) Enjoy a scenic ride on Two Medicine Lake with options to disembark for a short optional walk to Twin Falls if you want a tiny stretch without a real hike. 🗓️ Times, Reservations & Practical Tips Reservations Recommended Reservations are strongly suggested, especially in peak summer (June–August). While some walk-up tickets might be available or even a waitlist, tours often fill up early in the day.
Red Bus Tours are guided sightseeing journeys aboard Glacier’s iconic historic “Red Jammer” buses — vintage touring vehicles with roll-back tops for great views as you travel through the park. They’re one of the most classic Glacier experiences, combining scenic driving with storytelling from knowledgeable guides. The buses have been in operation for decades and are part of Glacier’s cultural heritage — the fleet includes many vehicles from the 1930s and is considered one of the oldest touring fleets in the world. What You’ll See & Experience: Scenic routes throughout the park, including iconic views along Going-to-the-Sun Road, valleys, lakes, and mountain passes (depending on the tour). Expert commentary from your driver (called a “Jammer”), who shares geology, wildlife, cultural history, and park stories as you go. Open-air viewing (weather permitting), so you can take photos and soak in the views without hiking. **BOOK ASAP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED! This is a very popular tour!
Scenic Lift Rides at Whitefish Mountain Resort Ride a Gondola or Chairlift to the Summit of Big Mountain. A must-do summer activity! Choose an enclosed gondola or an open chairlift, then sit back and enjoy the ride while you experience breathtaking views of Whitefish Lake, the Flathead Valley, Glacier National Park and the Northern Rockies. Once at the summit of Big Mountain, you can enjoy more panoramic views and pop in to the Summit House to eat lunch, order drinks at the bar and shop for souvenirs. You can also visit the U.S. Forest Service's Summit Nature Center to learn about native wildlife!
Guided horseback rides are available inside the park at Many Glacier, Lake McDonald, and Apgar. Swan Mountain Outfitters offers drop camp services, packing visitor's gear into certain backcountry campgrounds using stock. This can be an enjoyable alternative to backpacking. A backcountry permit and advance coordination are required
No fishing license is required to fish inside park boundaries. No bull trout may be retained. Any caught incidentally must be handled carefully and immediately released. Wet hands with lake/river/stream water before handling fish. Fish Consumption Advisory: If you plan on keeping fish to eat, please check the fish consumption guidelines.
