In Ghana, marriage is not just about two people, it's about two families coming together. The ceremony is called the traditional marriage and this event is often considered the "real" wedding even if the couple later has a church or courthouse ceremony. The groom's family formally presents gifts to the bride's family. The bride is called out and appears dressed in rich kente cloth and is a major moment, flanked by her support girls. The family accepts the gifts and the elders bless the union. Prayers are offered, drinks may be poured, advice is given and the the party starts!
