In the Spring of 2021, as I was registering for classes, I noticed a course that was only offered once a year. If I didn’t take it that quarter, I’d be delayed a full year. The day came for registration, and to my frustration, the class was already full. I immediately called my advisor and even spoke to the Dean of Engineering, desperate to get in. A few days later, I received an email saying the class had reopened for the Fall quarter. Although I was still frustrated, I registered for it, not knowing that this change would lead to something unexpected. If I’d gotten into the class that Spring, I would have never met Landon. When Fall came, I noticed a guy sitting diagonally from me in class. He was wearing a baseball shirt and a hat, always looking very serious. I thought he was cute—and incredibly tall! One night, I saw him out with friends and decided I’d introduce myself. That’s when things started to click. The quarter flew by, and even though we had said “hi” a few times in the hallway, we hadn’t really talked or hung out. The class had a big project coming up, and there was a setup day that was optional to attend. I wasn’t planning to go, but then I got a message from Landon asking if I was going. I figured I might as well, so I showed up. Afterward, we grabbed dinner, and as we talked, I felt like we've known each other a lot longer than we really had. Even though we’ve had to navigate time apart and do long distance, nothing has changed how I feel about him. If anything, it’s only made us stronger. Looking back, I can’t help but smile knowing that the timing for that class turned out to be perfect. Some things really do happen for a reason. I love you, Landon, and I can’t wait to marry you.

I first saw Stephanie in a fall quarter class, and I knew I had to get to know her. However, I was scared, so I spent about 80% of the quarter staying out of the way and avoiding approaching her while wanting to approach her but never quite finding the right moment. That is, until we had a big class project, and the class needed to set up the room for it. I used that as my opportunity to text her and ask if she was going to help. This was just my way of starting a conversation. After she said yes, I invited her to go eat with me. What I had completely forgotten, though, was that my card had been hacked a few days earlier, and I had no cash or backup card to pay for the meal. So, I ended up inviting her to eat and making her pay! It was definitely awkward, but she was incredibly cool about it and never once complained. After that dinner we continued hanging out because I knew I wanted to take things seriously . I asked her to be my girlfriend on January 5, 2022. The next thing I knew, it was summer, and I was on a flight to El Salvador, her home country. I got to meet her family, and they were amazing; I felt so welcomed. That was when I knew she was the one for me. She has helped me get to where I am today, and I would be nowhere without her.

El día de la inscripción llegó, y para mi frustración, la clase ya estaba llena. Llamé de inmediato a mi asesor e incluso hablé con el decano de ingeniería, desesperada por conseguir un lugar. Unos días después, recibí un correo diciendo que habían abierto un nuevo grupo para el trimestre de otoño. Aunque seguía algo molesta, me inscribí sin imaginar que ese cambio me llevaría a algo completamente inesperado. Si hubiera tomado esa clase en primavera, nunca habría conocido a Landon. Cuando llegó el otoño, noté a un chico que se sentaba en diagonal a mí en clase. Usaba una camiseta de béisbol y una gorra, siempre con cara seria. Me pareció muy guapo... ¡y altísimo! Un dia lo vi saliendo con unos amigos y decidí acercarme a saludarlo. Ahí fue cuando todo empezó todo. El trimestre se pasó volando, y aunque nos habíamos dicho “hola” un par de veces en los pasillos, todavía no habíamos tenido una conversación real ni compartido mucho tiempo juntos. Se venía un proyecto grande en la clase, y había un día opcional de preparación. No pensaba ir, pero recibí un mensaje de Landon preguntándome si iba a asistir. Pensé: “bueno, ¿por qué no?” Así que fui. Después fuimos a cenar, y mientras hablábamos, sentí como si ya nos conociéramos desde hace mucho tiempo. Aunque hemos tenido que vivir momentos a distancia y mantener una relación de lejos, nada ha cambiado lo que siento por él. De hecho, eso solo nos ha hecho más fuertes. Al mirar hacia atrás, no puedo evitar sonreír al pensar que el momento en que tomé esa clase fue perfecto. Hay cosas que realmente pasan por una razón. Te amo, Landon, y no puedo esperar para casarme contigo.

Vi por primera vez a Stephanie en una clase del trimestre de otoño, y supe que tenía que conocerla. Pero tenía miedo, así que pasé como el 80% del trimestre manteniéndome al margen, evitando acercarme, aunque en el fondo quería hacerlo. Nunca parecía encontrar el momento adecuado. Así que terminé invitándola a comer... ¡y haciéndola pagar a ella! Fue un poco incómodo, pero ella fue increíblemente buena y nunca se quejó. Después de esa cena, seguimos viéndonos, porque yo sabía que quería algo serio con ella. Le pedí que fuera mi novia el 5 de enero de 2022. Y de un momento a otro, ya era verano y yo estaba en un vuelo rumbo a El Salvador, su país. Conocí a su familia, y fueron maravillosos; me hicieron sentir súper bienvenido. Fue en ese momento cuando supe que ella era la indicada para mí. Stephanie me ha ayudado a llegar a donde estoy hoy, y sin ella no sería quien soy.
