All Martha's Vineyard beaches are open to the public prior to June 1st 2024. Public beach options year round include Menemsha Public Beach. Near Lambert's Cove Inn include Lambert's Cove Beach, Lucy Vincent Beach, and Squibnocket Beach, all of which require town beach passes after June 1st. Lambert's Cove Beach is a coveted North Shore beach with crystal blue water, soft white sand, and famously calm water (it's the closest thing you'll find to the Caribbean on Martha's Vineyard). The walk from the parking lot can be a bit daunting, but the views from the top of the sand dune are worth it.
Located near Chilmark, Lucy Vincent beach is a beautiful stretch of golden sand that runs along the Atlantic coast with tall sand dunes and rocks in the background with usually epic surf! The beach is backed by sections of clay cliffs and there are some large rocks at various points. To the rear of the beach are a series of lagoons which are a haven for birdlife. The shoreline here can be rocky at times and has experienced erosion over the years. As a rule, the water is pretty cold for swimming and there are no lifeguards, however, it is a beautiful wild spot to enjoy the scenery. The far end of the Lucy Vincent beach is clothing optional, but the lower end is family friendly. If you stay in one of the charming inns in town or rent a house, you can enjoy this Martha’s Vineyard getaway during the summer. Go for walks, read a book, or just relax and enjoy.
This is one of our favorite beaches with one of the best sunsets. Traditionally as the last spot of sun drops below the horizon, people clap and cheer. Parking can be a premium in the summer time, but this is the one beach where you can drive and park right next to the water. The water is always calm so very safe for kids. Located up the street are two fish markets (Larsen's and Menemsha Fish Market) where you can get oysters, lobster rolls, and fish fry, among other fresh daily catch options. There are public restrooms and several clothing, art, and antique shops you can stop by in this little fishing village, which served as the setting for Spielberg's epic movie, Jaws. It overlooks the channel of ocean known as Vineyard Sound with views to Gay Head Lighthouse and the Elizabeth Islands including Nashawena Island and provides a scenic location with fishing boats unloading their catch in the harbour nearby.
This is another local beach near the Menemsha Inn and Cottages. This beach is slightly more rocky with less sand real estate to sit down and enjoy the waves. This beach is open to the public for free up until June 1st 2024.
Open daily from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. The Lighthouse overlooks the National Historic Landmark-designated red clay cliffs, the Elizabeth Islands and the wild, south facing beaches. Stroll to the overlook and stop in at the Heritage Exhibit kiosk to learn about the people, places and stories that embrace the spirit of the Aquinnah Wampanoag. While you’re there, peruse the Shoppes that carry handmade native jewelry, wampum, clothing, scrimshaw, pottery, home décor and more. The eateries offer New England favorites, farm & ocean-to-table fresh breakfasts, lunches and dinners and delicious organic ice cream.
One of our favorites--we go here every year! The Covington Restaurant is located on Main Street in Edgartown on the island of Martha's Vineyard. A refined restaurant that includes seasonally driven food, homemade pasta, a full bar with clever craft cocktails and ample outdoor seating.
A raw bar, gourmet kitchen, and cocktail bar located on Main Street in Edgartown. The Port Hunter hosts live music almost every night of the week in the summer. A local favorite. Put your name on the list, get a drink at the bar, and enjoy the fun atmosphere, brick walls, and good conversation. The Port Hunter is always busy, and the food is always unbelievably good! Aside from the incredible oysters, the menu features clever starters, hearty salads, steak, chicken, and fish dishes, mussels, and fish tacos.
This is a hidden gem for a reasonably priced lunch or dinner. It's always open year round. We got the lobster rolls which are quintessential Cape Cod and Islands. It's a family friendly restaurant with a good atmosphere inside. There's a large selection of wood fired pizzas and bar foods. Laid back vibes.
The restaurant, located way off the tourist track in North Tisbury, bills itself as a “contemporary American tavern,” and though it is open year-round, it is certainly more upscale than the usual tavern. The restaurant’s stone fireplace, rough-hewn beamed ceiling, shingle-sided porch, and paintings by the rural master Alan Whiting make it resemble a farmhouse. The menu focuses on Island products, from the Vineyard greens salad to the Briar Patch farm rabbit with Parmesan polenta. The drinks list features ciders, craft beers, and carefully selected wines by the glass and bottle. Make reservations beforehand!
For the kids!
