Yes, no special permits are needed. We recommend checking with your credit card company or insurance company if they cover international travel. If they don't, you may purchase international car insurance at the border for about $40/day.
We have seen all kinds of cars drive in Valle, from small vehicles to big trucks. Any car should be safe to drive. *Disclaimer- there are still primarily dirt roads, so prepare for some bumpy rides and your car to get dusty.
We have driven at night and during they day. If it is your first time traveling across the border by car we recommend traveling during the day for ease of accessibility. Traveling at night can be confusing, but not impossible. For the safest travel experience we recommend traveling during the daytime.
Please ensure to apply for a passport prior to traveling internationally. it takes about 3 months to get a new passport. If you don't have a passport or your passport is expired you may not be allowed back in the country or you will be stopped and asked lots of questions before being allowed back. Make sure you have multiple forms of identification with you if this happens.

Fall weather can rage from 60-78 degrees in the daytime and drop down to mid 40's in the evening /night. Definitely bring a warm coat with you although you may not need it since you'll be dancing all night ;)
