Deon and Stephanie met in 2007, both working for PGCPS. Deon was the IT Technician at the school where Stephanie worked. As the years passed, they no longer worked in the same building however they knew of each other enough to be cordial. In 2020 during COVID and while the schools were closed, Stephanie trained Deon’s mother, Mrs. Yates, on her new job. Not knowing the connection, Stephanie and Mrs. Yates developed a bond and worked together just about everyday. One day while in the office, they spoke about each other’s families. A few minutes later they had run into an issue with the computer. Mrs. Yates said”let me call my son.” It was then that Stephanie learned that Mrs. Yates was Deon’s mother. Stephanie said “oh my gosh…call him” and Mrs. Yates did. Deon could not figure out Stephanie’s voice until she shouted “IT'S YOUR WIFE!” Deon replied “this ain’t nobody but Steph Lova!” The two reconnected and a friendship began to develop.

While Stephanie was sick with an ear infection, Deon promised her some homemade soup. For those who know, DEON CAN COOK so Stephanie was excited to get some of his homemade soup. 1 hour went by. 2 hours went by. 5 hours went by and still no soup AND no Deon! Stephanie called and called Deon's phone, but to no avail. Finally Deon showed up but without any soup and asked Stephanie to get out of her sick bed to get him some Apple Juice. With much attitude and mouth, Stephanie got up to get the Apple Juice. As she exited the kitchen with Apple Juice in hand, there was Deon on one knee as Mariah looked on. While on one knee, Deon said "You tryin marry me?" Stephanie, in complete shock, didn't believe him at first, but once she spoke to her Dad he confirmed that it was true. While Stephanie was waiting for her soup, Deon was busy talking to his parents, Stephanie's parents, her sister, her brothers, and at the store purchasing the ring.
